As Ontario’s largest hospital built to date, the development will span approximately 2.8 million ft².

UrbanToronto’s last update was in January, 2026, covering the earlier stages of excavation.

This month, looking at the southwest corner of the site, activity has shifted into early foundation work, with a concrete boom pump extending into the excavation to place concrete into formwork panels along the perimeter. A section of cast-in-place foundation wall is visible in the foreground, supported by braces, while adjacent work areas show multiple reinforced concrete columns rising from the partially-formed slab, each topped with protruding rebar. The base of the first crane, installed in February, 2026, is seen at the right edge of the frame.

Looking northeast to the southwest corner, showing concrete pump, formwork, and early foundation walls and columns, image by UrbanToronto Forum contributor drum118

Meanwhile, excavation has advanced across the broad pit, with the existing hospital buildings remaining active along the west edge. At the northwest corner, a newly installed Metrolinx substation sits adjacent to the excavation, while the second crane is erected at the north end. Within the pit, a coordinated lineup of green and yellow tracked excavators is visible, with a dirt access ramp descending from the northeast corner to facilitate equipment circulation. Along the north and east perimeters, the shoring system is lined with orange safety tarping and tiebacks, with temporary stair access installed for crews working between grade and the excavation floor on the right.

Looking northeast across the excavation toward the north end, image by UrbanToronto Forum contributor drum118

At grade in the southeast corner, a clearly organized staging area accommodates site trailers, containers, and material stockpiles, with a compacted dirt ramp providing access for trucks and equipment moving between grade and the excavation floor.

Looking east over the full site, showing mass excavation, staging area, and tower crane, image by UrbanToronto Forum contributor drum118

Upon completion, the new hospital will provide more than 950 beds.

Looking northwest to Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital, designed by Stantec, Adamson Associates Architects, Parkin Architects Limited, and Jodoin Lamarre Pratte Architectes Inc for Trillium Health Partners

UrbanToronto will continue to follow progress on this development, but in the meantime, you can learn more about it from our Database file, linked below.
