{"id":578711,"date":"2026-04-03T03:03:11","date_gmt":"2026-04-03T03:03:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/578711\/"},"modified":"2026-04-03T03:03:11","modified_gmt":"2026-04-03T03:03:11","slug":"womens-tennis-defeats-mississippi-state-in-4-3-thriller-ole-miss-athletics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/578711\/","title":{"rendered":"Women\u2019s Tennis Defeats Mississippi State in 4-3 Thriller &#8211; Ole Miss Athletics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>OXFORD, Miss. \u2013 After falling behind early, No. 45 Ole Miss women&#8217;s tennis stormed back to take down No. 51 Mississippi State, 4-3, in a match that came down to the final court on Thursday night at the Palmer\/Salloum Outdoor Tennis Center.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nOle Miss (10-9, 4-8 SEC) was able to put together a win against in-state rival No. 51<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nIn doubles, the Bulldogs (15-9, 3-9 SEC) made a statement, winning decisively on courts one and two. <a href=\"https:\/\/olemisssports.com\/sports\/womens-tennis\/roster\/beatrice-stagno\/6532\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"6532\" target=\"_blank\">Beatrice Stagno<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/olemisssports.com\/sports\/womens-tennis\/roster\/brooklyn-olson\/5567\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"5567\" target=\"_blank\">Brooklyn Olson&#8217;s<\/a> doubles court would go unfinished, but they came close to closing out their match against Thessy Ntondele Zinga and Emma Cohen, for they held a 5-3 advantage before play concluded.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nThe Rebels responded quickly in singles, with No. 18 <a href=\"https:\/\/olemisssports.com\/sports\/womens-tennis\/roster\/emily-welker\/5810\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"5810\" target=\"_blank\">Emily Welker<\/a> getting the Rebels on the board with a 6-2, 6-0 win against Gianna Oboniye. <a href=\"https:\/\/olemisssports.com\/sports\/womens-tennis\/roster\/ichino-horikawa\/6017\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"6017\" target=\"_blank\">Ichino Horikawa<\/a> would follow soon after, for she would defeat Carolina Troiano, 6-4, 6-2, to put Ole Miss back in front 2-1.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/olemisssports.com\/sports\/womens-tennis\/roster\/andrea-nova\/5565\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"5565\" target=\"_blank\">Andrea Nova<\/a> would finish next and would defeat Ntongele Zinga, 6-2, 6-4, to increase the Rebels&#8217; lead to 3-1.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nThe final three courts would be tricky. Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocs would get the best of Alice Souli\u00e9, winning in the third set, 6-2, 4-6, 6-0. Then Mia Robinson would knot the match up 3-3 after defeating Stagno, 1-6, 7-5, 6-4.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nThe deciding matchup would take place on court four, between <a href=\"https:\/\/olemisssports.com\/sports\/womens-tennis\/roster\/riley-crowder\/6016\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"6016\" target=\"_blank\">Riley Crowder<\/a> and Chiara Di Genova. The first set would be decided in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-3). Di Genova would win the second set to force a third.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nIn the third set, Crowder took control and powered the Rebels to victory, winning a decisive 6-1 set.
