Liverpool is moving to make one of Anfield\u2019s most visible matchday changes a permanent feature, as the club prepares a formal application to keep a section of Anfield Road closed to traffic on game days and during major events.<\/p>\n

The stretch in question runs alongside the Anfield Road Stand, where temporary closures have been in place around fixtures while the \u00a360m expansion was completed and bedded in.<\/p>\n

According to the Liverpool Echo,<\/a> the club have now submitted proposals to Liverpool City Council for a permanent traffic regulation order, which would formalise those closures rather than relying on repeated short-term measures. Any decision will go through the council\u2019s usual process, including scrutiny and public consultation.<\/p>\n

The move comes against the backdrop of wider changes in the area.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, councillors backed plans for a \u00a33.9m\u2013\u00a34m upgrade of Walton Breck Road<\/a>, the main route running past the Kop, as part of the long-running Anfield Regeneration Programme.<\/p>\n

That scheme will deliver new pavements, crossings and public realm improvements aimed at making the high street safer and more welcoming for residents, businesses and supporters travelling to and from the stadium.<\/p>\n

Councillor Nick Small, Cabinet Member for Growth and Economy, said: \u201cThe Anfield Regeneration Programme is an ambitious long-term investment that will deliver real benefits for people living and working in the area.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAlongside the improvements to Walton Breck Road, we\u2019re developing a range of projects to make better use of local space, attract new businesses and increase the availability of affordable homes.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve listened closely to residents and businesses throughout this process, and we\u2019re excited to move forward with plans that reflect their priorities and support Anfield\u2019s continued growth.\u201d<\/p>\n

Combined with the Anfield Road Stand expansion, which has taken capacity past 61,000, these measures mark the latest phase in reshaping how fans access Anfield and how the wider neighbourhood operates on matchdays and beyond.<\/p>\n
