{"id":578967,"date":"2026-04-03T05:51:12","date_gmt":"2026-04-03T05:51:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/578967\/"},"modified":"2026-04-03T05:51:12","modified_gmt":"2026-04-03T05:51:12","slug":"boy-charged-after-tamil-memorial-in-brampton-defaced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/578967\/","title":{"rendered":"Boy charged after Tamil memorial in Brampton defaced"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">A 14-year-old boy has been charged after the Tamil Genocide Memorial at Brampton\u2019s Chinguacousy Park was recently vandalized with derogatory spray-painted messages.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Peel Regional Police said they were called to that area on March 20 after receiving reports that the memorial had been defaced.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cUpon arrival, officers confirmed the vandalism and immediately assigned the investigation to the Hate Crime Unit,\u201d police said in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.peelpolice.ca\/news-feed\/posts\/arrest-made-in-vandalism-of-tamil-genocide-memorial-in-brampton-pr260095329\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.peelpolice.ca\/news-feed\/posts\/arrest-made-in-vandalism-of-tamil-genocide-memorial-in-brampton-pr260095329\/\">a news release<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">After a thorough investigation, a teenage boy from Brampton was arrested and charged on March 31 with two counts of mischief over $5,000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The accused, who cannot be identified under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is set to appear in court at a later date.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cPeel Regional Police will not tolerate vandalism \u2014 especially hate-motivated crimes of spaces that are meaningful to our communities.
