The\u00a0Manitoba Anglers\u2019 Guide 2026\u00a0is now available and\u00a0Natural Resources and Indigenous Futures Minister Ian Bushie shared that\u00a0anglers are encouraged to access the guide online for information on the upcoming fishing season.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe release of the Manitoba Anglers\u2019 Guide 2026 marks the start of another exciting fishing season,\u201d said Bushie. \u201cDuring these free fishing days, I encourage Manitobans and visitors to enjoy their time outdoors safely and responsibly.\u201d<\/p>\n
During spring break, until April 5, anglers can fish without an angling licence, although federal\u00a0angling licences are still required in national parks.<\/p>\n

There are some new regulations in place including\u00a0updated angling licence fees and changes to some possession limits and size restrictions which began on April 1.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Anglers fishing for walleye and sauger are reminded of the following fishing season dates:<\/p>\n
\n\tApril 6 \u2013 walleye and sauger season closes in the southern division;
\n\tMay 1 \u2013 walleye and sauger season closes in the northwest and north central divisions;
\n\tMay 9 \u2013 walleye and sauger season opens in the southern division (except Lake Winnipeg); and
\n\tMay 16 \u2013 walleye and sauger season opens on Lake Winnipeg and in the northwest and north central divisions.
<\/p>\n
Anglers are reminded to not target these species during closed times.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Some areas are closed to all fishing from April 6 to May 8, including the Red River between Lockport Dam and Lake Winnipeg and its tributaries upstream to Provincial Trunk Highway (PTH) 9 and PTH 59, and the Assiniboine River downstream of the Portage Diversion to Provincial Road 240.<\/p>\n
To help protect the province’s water, Manitobans are reminded to ensure that all watercraft and water related equipment is clean, drained, dried out, and\u00a0if necessary, decontaminated after use in any Manitoba water body.<\/p>\n
