Cole Caufield used the Madison Square Garden stage on Thursday night to make some Montreal Canadiens<\/a> history.<\/p>\n

He’s been good on the road all year, and that continued with a historic goal against the New York Rangers<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Caufield’s final tally at MSG marked his 25th road goal of the season.<\/p>\n

According to Sportsnet, he’s the first Canadiens player to reach 25 road goals in a campaign since Guy Lafleur in 1979-80.<\/p>\n

Caufield is a 25-year old American who is having a massive campaign. Through 74 goals, he has 49 goals and 34 assists for 83 points.<\/p>\n

And yep, his next goal will be 50, an amazing milestone.<\/p>\n

Caufield scored two goals against the Rangers, and in each of the three games before that he had a goal, too. He has raised his goal total in each season of his NHL career — 4 to 23 to 26 to 28 to 37 to 49.<\/p>\n

Joining the company of Lafleur is pretty cool, too. Lafleur was the No. 1 overall pick in 1971 and made it to the Hall of Fame after winning five Stanley Cups.<\/p>\n

Caufield would certainly take a career that looks like that one. For now, he’ll settle for matching a little bit of history.<\/p>\n
