A 56-year-old man is fighting for his life after being stabbed in the city\u2019s east end on Wednesday evening.<\/p>\n
A 911 call was placed at around 8:15 p.m. reporting a person who had possibly been stabbed during an armed assault.<\/p>\n
Police say the injured man was found at the corner of Ontario and Dezery streets in the Mercier\u2013Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen officers arrived on scene, they located a man with upper-body injuries caused by a sharp object,\u201d said Jean-Pierre Brabant, spokesperson for the Montreal police service. \u201cThe 56-year-old man was transported to hospital, where he remains in critical condition and his life is in danger.\u201d<\/p>\n
Police later arrested a woman in her 50s who was located in her vehicle at the corner of Sherbrooke Street and d\u2019Orl\u00e9ans Avenue in the Rosemont borough.<\/p>\n
She was taken into custody and transported to a police station, where investigators are expected to question her to better understand her role in the incident.<\/p>\n
According to preliminary information, the stabbing occurred after an altercation between the two individuals escalated.<\/p>\n
Brabant said investigators have not yet determined the exact location where the altercation took place. Police have established perimeters around two areas: where the victim was found and where the suspect was arrested.<\/p>\n
Investigators are expected to meet with witnesses as they work to clarify the circumstances surrounding the attack.<\/p>\n
