We are warning members of the public of an ongoing scam involving paving contractors in Calgary and the surrounding area.<\/p>\n
These contractors will approach home and business owners and claim to have just finished another paving project in the area.<\/p>\n
They will offer to pave the customer’s property with free material and only charge for labour. Home or business owners are presented with a contract showing blank spaces for the cost per square foot and area covered by the project. When the customer signs the incomplete contract, the contractor paves a large area with a very thin layer of poor quality asphalt and then completes the square footage and price on the already signed contract.<\/p>\n
In some cases, contractors attempt to intimidate customers into paying immediately for the work , and provide false addresses and contact information.<\/p>\n
Calgary Police advise people to research companies through the Better Business Bureau, Consumer Investigations Unit, and customer reviews before accepting any paving offers, and to contact police if contractors make threats against any person\u2019s safety.<\/p>\n
