{"id":580125,"date":"2026-04-03T19:07:11","date_gmt":"2026-04-03T19:07:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/580125\/"},"modified":"2026-04-03T19:07:11","modified_gmt":"2026-04-03T19:07:11","slug":"siu-clears-officer-in-danforth-go-fatal-shooting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/580125\/","title":{"rendered":"SIU clears officer in Danforth GO fatal shooting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Toronto police officer who shot and killed a man pointing a BB gun at him at Danforth GO station will not be charged after an SIU investigation. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">A Toronto police officer will not face criminal charges in the fatal shooting of a 32-year-old man at Danforth GO station late last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/siu.on.ca\/lues-conclut-une-enqute-sur-la-mort-par-balle-dun-homme-dans-une-gare-go-toronto-fr11106\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/siu.on.ca\/lues-conclut-une-enqute-sur-la-mort-par-balle-dun-homme-dans-une-gare-go-toronto-fr11106\">Ontario\u2019s Special Investigations Unit<\/a> says director Joseph Martino found no reasonable grounds to believe the officer committed a criminal offence in the Dec. 6, 2025 incident.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Investigators say the man was fatally shot after drawing a BB gun and pointing it at the officer during an early-morning interaction at the station.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/SIR63OSOARH3RCS2NKFMM7JIEM.jpeg\"  width=\"800\" height=\"450\"\/>GUN A black \u201cGlock\u201d CO2 powered BB gun (in pieces \u2013 frame, slide, grip cover, spring, two loose BBs), located on the middle landing area of the stairs (SIU photo). <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Martino concluded the officer discharged his firearm to protect himself from what he reasonably believed was an imminent attack.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The shooting happened after police were called to the Main Street and Stephenson Avenue area around 1:08 a.m. for reports of a person with a gun.
