{"id":580968,"date":"2026-04-04T04:11:18","date_gmt":"2026-04-04T04:11:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/580968\/"},"modified":"2026-04-04T04:11:18","modified_gmt":"2026-04-04T04:11:18","slug":"boxing-usyk-v-verhoeven-undercard-announced-with-hamzah-sheeraz-in-world-title-fight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/580968\/","title":{"rendered":"Boxing: Usyk v Verhoeven undercard announced with Hamzah Sheeraz in world title fight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Hamzah Sheeraz will fight Alem Begic for the WBO super-middleweight title on 23 May in Egypt.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The Briton will be chief support to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/boxing\/articles\/c5yqpj9ppkgo\" class=\"ssrcss-18834jl-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Oleksandr Usyk&#8217;s world title fight<\/a> against Dutchman Rico Verhoeven at the Pyramids of Giza.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Sheeraz, 26, failed in his one previous <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/boxing\/articles\/cj67knpl4p8o\" class=\"ssrcss-18834jl-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">world title fight at middleweight<\/a> while the unbeaten German Begic challenges for the first time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Begic, 39, is unbeaten in 30 fights with one draw.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The Giza event will feature another world title fight as Japan&#8217;s Mizuki Hiruta will defend her WBO super-flyweight belt against Egyptian-born Australian Mai Soliman.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Hiruta, 29, is undefeated in 10 fights and won her world title in just her fourth outing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Also on the Usyk-Verhoeven undercard is Englishman Jack Catterall, who continues his bid to become a world champion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Catterall will face undefeated Uzbek contender Shakhram Giyasov for the WBA &#8216;regular&#8217; welterweight title and the opportunity to potentially face WBA &#8216;super&#8217; champion Rolando Romero.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Hamzah Sheeraz will fight Alem Begic for the WBO super-middleweight title on 23 May in Egypt.
