Canada\u2019s 7th Most Wanted Arrested in Surrey<\/p>\n

One of Canada\u2019s most wanted fugitives was arrested by police in Surrey on March 26.<\/p>\n
Officers from the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of British Columbia(CFSEU-BC) Uniform Gang Enforcement Team (UGET) were conducting \u201cproactive patrols\u201d in Surrey when they saw and identified Chad Dandan and arrested him.<\/p>\n
Dandan is wanted in connection with a 2024 homicide in Winnipeg, Manitoba and was 7th on Canada\u2019s most wanted wanted Be On the Lookout (BOLO) program.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe suspect took deliberate steps to avoid being recognized, but our officers\u2019 training and vigilance led to his arrest,\u201d said Sgt. Sarbjit K. Sangha, CFSEU-BC Media Relations Officer. \u201cThis is a strong example of the work our members do every day to enhance public safety.\u201d<\/p>\n
CFSEU-BC is working with the Winnipeg Police Service \u201cto coordinate the accused\u2019s custody and support the next steps in the judicial process,\u201d noted a CFSEU-BC news release Saturday.<\/p>\n
Dandan has been flown back to Winnipeg and remains in custody, according to Winnipeg Police. He is charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping and extortion.<\/p>\n
On Sept. 10, 2024, police in Winnipeg responded to a call in the 300 block of Bridge Lake Drive about a man who had been abducted the day before.<\/p>\n
Three days later, on Sept. 13, the missing man\u2019s body was located in the early morning hours in a home in the 100 block of Bristol Avenue. Police identified the victim as Zeyad Shammo, 22, of Ontario.<\/p>\n
Two other individuals have also been charged in connection to Shammo\u2019s death. Sonny Balemba and Robert James Chaykowski have been charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping and extortion. Chaykowski has also been charged with four counts of failing to comply with a release order.<\/p>\n
