During snowfall, crews focus on plowing and applying material to high volume roads like Crowchild Trail, Glenmore Trail, Macleod Trail and Memorial Drive. Crews will also monitor trouble spots like bridges, hills and important intersections across Calgary.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n    &#13;<br \/>\n    &#13;<br \/>\n        &#13;<br \/>\n           Pedestrian infrastructure: 0 \u2013 24 hours after snowfall stop time&#13;<br \/>\n        &#13;<br \/>\n        &#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;\n<\/p>\n<p>While our equipment is on the road, hand crews and smaller equipment are out doing important work on priority pedestrian infrastructure. Within 24 hours\u00a0of snowfall stop time, The City will perform winter maintenance on:<\/p>\n<p>Over 750 km of prioritized pathways<br \/>\nSidewalks bordering City-owned properties<br \/>\nPlease note \u2013 The City clears about 10 percent of all of Calgary\u2019s sidewalks. Property owners and\/or occupants are typically responsible for clearing snow from their adjacent sidewalks within 24 hours of snowfall stop time<\/p>\n<p>Pedestrian bridges, vehicle bridges, LRT platforms and other public properties with high-volume foot traffic<br \/>\nApproximately 1,300 high-use bus stops<\/p>\n<p>For a map of priority routes, visit the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/maps.calgary.ca\/SNICPriorityRoutes\/\" title=\"snow priority routes map\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Snow and Ice Control Priority Routes map<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>*The City is responsible for clearing approximately 10 per cent of Calgary sidewalks. Private property owners have the critical job of clearing the remaining 90 per cent, within 24 hours of a snowfall ending. With no snow accumulating, crews focus on plowing snow and applying materials (as necessary) on Calgary\u2019s major routes. These include:<\/p>\n<p>Calgary\u2019s busiest major roadways. Roads with over 20,000 vehicle trips per day, such as Crowchild Trail, Memorial Drive and Macleod Trail\u00a0(Please note: Deerfoot Trail and Stoney Trail are maintained by the Province).<br \/>\nDowntown roads and cycle tracks (walking and wheeling lanes)<\/p>\n<p class=\"cui icon-label cui-width-100  mb-responsive\">&#13;<br \/>\n        <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"cimg md\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.calgary.ca\/content\/dam\/city-of-calgary-icons\/snow-shoveling-o.svg\"\/>&#13;<br \/>\n        Pedestrian infrastructure must be cleared within 24 hours after snowfall stop time&#13;\n    <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n    &#13;<br \/>\n    &#13;<br \/>\n        &#13;<br \/>\n           18 &#8211; 36 hours after snowfall stop time (major community and transit routes)&#13;<br \/>\n        &#13;<br \/>\n        &#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;\n<\/p>\n<p>When snow clearing has been completed on Calgary\u2019s busiest roads, crews shift focus to high-volume community and transit routes. This work includes plowing driving lanes and through lanes (not curb or parking lanes) and piling it roadside. Priority 2 routes include:<\/p>\n<p>Major Community and Transit routes. Roads with more than 5,000 vehicles per day, such as Kensington Road and Acadia Drive<br \/>\nIntersections and crosswalks controlled by traffic lights<br \/>\nDesignated emergency routes (e.g. around hospitals and fire stations)<br \/>\nBus routes<br \/>\nRoads with on-street bike lanes<br \/>\nTrouble spots<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n    &#13;<br \/>\n    &#13;<br \/>\n        &#13;<br \/>\n           36 hours after snowfall stop time and beyond&#13;<br \/>\n        &#13;<br \/>\n        &#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;\n<\/p>\n<p>Once crews have completed work on our major routes we shift focus onto lower volume routes and duties.
