Photo Credit: SheilaP<\/p>\nEntering Friday night\u2019s game, no PWHL player played more games than Montreal Victoire forward Kaitlin Willoughby without scoring a goal. Willoughby, who was acquired by Montreal at last year\u2019s trade deadline had played 74 games in her career over the league\u2019s three seasons.<\/p>\n
That streak ended in Montreal\u2019s 3-0 win over the Ottawa Charge in front of 17,114 fans at the Canadian Tire Centre as she scored twice. Sandra Abstreiter, who played three games for Ottawa in the league\u2019s inaugural season, made 39 saves for her first career PWHL shutout in her seventh game.<\/p>\n
The win extended Montreal\u2019s point streak to 13 games, stretching their PWHL record. They also moved into first place in the PWHL, one point ahead of Boston although the Fleet do have a game in hand.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s\u00a0not for lack of chances\u00a0I\u2019ve\u00a0had throughout the years;\u00a0but my teammates, my coaching staff, everyone has just continued to believe in me and keep my confidence up,\u201d said Willoughby. \u201cThe support\u00a0I\u2019ve\u00a0had from my teammates just\u00a0keeps\u00a0me going.\u00a0They\u2019re\u00a0like \u2013\u00a0\u2018it\u2019s\u00a0going to come\u00a0Willow\u2019.\u00a0And eventually it did, and now the floodgates might be open for me.\u201d<\/p>\n
She mentioned that the team has been putting money on the board for her first goal \u2013 a pre-game tradition where players put money into a pot for something to happen. Her lack of finish the last few games prompted her to ask them to stop, before Friday where the team fund did end up getting a boost with her scoring.<\/p>\n
Willoughby, who had a two-on-one chance earlier in the game, opened the scoring 6:21 into the second period, with the shots 22-10 for Ottawa. Abstreiter earned an assist on the play when her save led to an odd-player rush going the other way.<\/p>\n
Less than three minutes later, Montreal doubled the lead when Nicole Gosling entered the zone on the power play, fed it to Laura Stacey, who found Abby Roque driving the net at the far post for the tap in.<\/p>\n
Ottawa would continue to get some chances, but Abstreiter and the team defence would not allow anything to cross the goal line.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s something special, obviously, but in general, it\u2019s a team shutout,\u201d said Abstreiter, whose 39 saves in a shutout was second-most in PWHL history. \u201cThere\u00a0were a\u00a0lot of\u00a0[my\u00a0teammates]\u00a0that\u00a0came and helped me out in the crease. There\u00a0were\u00a0a few dives\u00a0across\u00a0and they made a ton of saves too, and there\u00a0was\u00a0definitely a\u00a0lot of blocked shots.\u00a0They helped me out with every single\u00a0one of the shots\u00a0that the other team was\u00a0attempting.\u00a0It\u2019s definitely a team victory.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Willoughby added her second goal into the empty net with 43 seconds remaining.<\/p>\n
Montreal will return home to host the Seattle Torrent on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n
