Amazon\u2019s new Head of Global TV, Peter Friedlander, has requested that the scripts for the upcoming Mass Effect TV series be rewritten to appeal to \u201cnon-gamers,\u201d claims a new report by The Ankler.\u00a0Although that may sound like bad news to fans, the flipside is that production for the series is reportedly \u201con the verge\u201d of starting.<\/p>\n
The Ankler reports<\/a> (via IGN<\/a>) that several Amazon Prime projects have been delayed by Friedlander, who has apparently taken quite an active role in approving script decisions since taking over as Head of TV in October 2025. The Mass Effect series is one such project, which is described as a \u201cpricey genre drama\u201d in the report.<\/p>\n Of course, the bit that\u2019s upsetting the Mass Effect fans is that Friedlander has supposedly requested that changes be made to the scripts to make the story \u201cmore appealing to non-gamers.\u201d At least, I\u2019m basing that on all of the angry comments over in this thread<\/a> on r\/masseffect.<\/p>\n However, without the full context, I\u2019m not sure this is something we should actually be upset about. Previous reports have stated that the story will be set after the events of the original Mass Effect trilogy, so it\u2019s possible that the current story doesn\u2019t have enough contextual detail for those unfamiliar with the games to understand fully.<\/p>\n
