\u201cWe find somewhere fun to go and just make it work. We\u2019ve ridden in Vancouver, down streets and along Southwest Marine Drive. We\u2019ve been in Surrey before, and just recently we rode on the closing day of Pattullo Bridge, took the horses across there. We did some research about it and, of course, back in the early days of the bridge there was horse crossing, so we brought them back that day.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kennedy says horses are legally allowed on city streets, per the Motor Vehicle Act. \u201cThey\u2019ve never changed it since the days of horse and buggy. But the highway, you have to do 60K (kilometres per hours), so we\u2019re not allowed there. But these roads, we\u2019re allowed.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to Stich, horses are allowed in Surrey parks, too, as long as they\u2019re under control and riders clean up after them. \u201cWe have a pooper-scooper and will use it when necessary,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
People love seeing the horses in public, Kennedy added.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have a very positive reaction and people love to see us, ask us questions, pet the horses. Many people say things to us like, \u2018Oh, it\u2019s so great to see horses in the area again, because I used to see them around when I was younger,\u2019 things like that.\u201d<\/p>\n
