AUSTIN, Texas — Jasmijn Raes<\/a> (Amsterdam, Netherlands) won the college\/university section high jump crown at the 98th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays as the Northern Illinois University women’s track and field team competed in a pair of events in the Lone State State this weekend.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Along with Raes’ high jump title, the Huskies also had four top-10 marks in program history as Precious Umukoro<\/a> (Villarreal, Spain) posted the fourth-best long jump mark in NIU history at the Bobcat Invitational while at the Texas Relays, G’Nea Pitt<\/a> (Spanish Town, Jamaica) recorded NIU’s fifth-best javelin mark all-time, Amelie Ojeda<\/a> (Lombard, Ill.\/Willowbrook) registered the sixth-best 5,000-meter time in Huskie history and Sarah Maggio<\/a> (Aurora, Ill.\/Metea Valley) ran the seventh-best steeplechase time in school history \u00a0<\/p>\n

“Texas Relays and Texas State, along with some warm temperatures, proved to be just what our athletes needed,” said NIU Director of Track and Field Connie Teaberry<\/a>. “Between the two competitions we set season best, PR’s, MAC and NIU list improvements. This effort, focus, and determination are what we have been looking for this season, and the staff is excited to see them continue this path.<\/p>\n

“Jasmijn Raes<\/a> and Precious Umukoro<\/a> led the ways in the field. Precious set a new PR, moved up on NIU performance list, and is currently sitting first on the MAC performance list in the long jump. While Jasmijn claimed first at Texas Relays in the B section High Jump. On the track, Amelie Ojeda<\/a> in the 5000 meters, Sarah Maggio<\/a> in the 3000-meter steeplechase and Natasha Chetty<\/a> in the 100 at Texas Relays moved into the top 10 positions in the MAC. In route to doing so, Amelie set a new PR.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“We will be back to the drawing board this week as we prepare for the University of Illinois next Saturday, hanging up our accomplishments and picking it back up Monday to improve more.”<\/p>\n

Raes took the top spot in the high jump at the Texas Relays as she cleared the bar at a season’s best 1.72 meters (5-07.75) on her second attempt, taking the tiebreaker over Caroline Peterson of Texas who cleared 1.72 meters on her third attempt. Arianna Calloway<\/a> (Blue Springs, Mo.\/Blue Springs) also earned a top-10 placing as she cleared the bar at 1.60 meters (5-03.00) to finish eighth.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In the javelin, Pitt recorded a throw measuring 38.39 meters (125-11) with her second attempt to earn a sixth-place finish. Pitt’s mark puts her fifth on NIU’s all-time list in the javelin.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Ojeda also earned a top-10 finish at the Texas Relays as she ran a time of 17:10.48 in the 5,000 meters, finishing ninth, while recording the sixth-best time in program history.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Maggio ran NIU’s seventh-fastest all-time mark in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, clocking in at 11:01.47, which also earned an eighth-place finish at the Texas Relays. It was the best mark by a Huskie in the steeplechase since 2022.\u00a0<\/p>\n

At Texas State’s Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos, Umukoro leaped 6.03 meters (19-09.50) in the long jump on her first attempt of the competition to earn a ninth-place finish. The mark is the best in the MAC this season and puts Umukoro fourth on NIU’s all-time list in the long jump. It also ranks in the top-75 in the nation this spring.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Calloway also recorded a top-10 finish at the Bobcat Invitational as she claimed sixth in the high jump, clearing 1.66 meters (5-05.25).\u00a0<\/p>\n

Other season-best performances this weekend included Claire Helmila<\/a> (Greenville, Wis.\/Freedom) running 2:16.40 in the 800, Tod’Jai Ross<\/a> (Kansas City, Mo.\/Ruskin) recording a mark of 5.56 meters (18-03.00) in the long jump, Tiffany Colin<\/a> (Tampa, Fla.\/Wiregrass Ranch) in both the 200 (25.24) and 400 meters (59.96) as well as Precious Akinsanya<\/a> (Des Plaines, Ill.\/Maine West) in the 200 meters, running 25.30 seconds.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Huskies will be back in action in-state next weekend as they travel to the Illini Deca-Jam on Saturday, April 11.\u00a0<\/p>\n
