Do you remember a few years ago when Twitter, the platform currently known as X, had users leaking movies, including Super Mario Bros.\u00a0and\u00a0Avatar: The Way of Water<\/a>? Well, you\u2019re not gonna believe this, but\u2026<\/p>\n

Over the Easter weekend users have done the same thing with the just-released\u00a0Super Mario Galaxy Movie<\/a>\u00a0and last year\u2019s\u00a0Avatar: Fire & Ash<\/a>. At time of writing, several camcorder rips of the former dropped on Friday and Saturday, with one replacing others taken down by copyright. At time of writing, io9 has only spotted one\u00a0Fire & Ash\u00a0video, which is in a perfectly clear quality.<\/p>\n

As with last time around, this all thanks to Twitter Blue, aka X Premium, whose benefits include video uploading up to three hours long. (Despite a 3-hour and 17-minute runtime, Ash makes up a single post, credits included, while uploaders cut off Galaxy\u2019s credits.) It\u2019s currently unclear how many views either movie\u2019s gotten since they were put online\u2014for reference, the first Super Mario\u00a0reportedly had over nine million views<\/a> when it was leaked in April 2023. By the time this had happened, Nintendo and Illumination\u2019s movie had crossed the $1 billion benchmark that same weekend.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s going to be a while before\u00a0The Super Mario Galaxy Movie\u00a0leaves theaters, but in the case of\u00a0Avatar: Fire & Ash, it\u2019d just gone digital<\/a> at the end of March. When Way of Water\u00a0leaked, it\u2019d been on digital storefronts for just over a month. Presumably by the time\u00a0we get\u00a0Avatar 4<\/a>,\u00a0leakers will have managed to put it on Twitter by opening weekend as they\u2019ve done with\u00a0Mario Galaxy. This probably won\u2019t be the end of Twitter\u2019s leaks\u2014after all,\u00a0Avengers: Doomsday\u00a0and\u00a0Dune: Part Three\u00a0are due during the holidays.<\/p>\n
