Remco Evenepoel and Tadej Poga\u010dar were both listed in the post-race jury report from the Tour of Flanders, but nothing about the whole train thing.<\/p>\n

As reported by WielerFlits<\/a>, Evenepoel was fined 200 Swiss francs for irregular feeding. His directeur sportif, former Belgian Sven Vanthourenhout, was also penalized, receiving a 500 Swiss franc fine.
Pogi\u2019s infraction came for littering outside designated zones. He was dinged a 500 Swiss franc fine and a loss of 25 UCI points. (Thankfully he has approximately 7 billion of \u2018em.)<\/p>\n

Crossing the level crossing<\/p>\n

Early in the Tour of Flanders, the peloton hit a railway crossing just as the lights turned red and the barriers began to drop. A front group, including Poga\u010dar and Evenepoel continued across. Others were forced to stop, splitting the race. Under Belgian traffic law, riders are required to halt at red signals, even in competition. Authorities are now identifying those involved, with possible fines or other discipline. The commissaires then stopped the front group and had a bit of talking to the riders who went through. Everything came back together.<\/p>\n

The incident has drawn scrutiny from local police and could still lead to legal consequences after the finish. Local authorities were not pleased and threatened legal action. Riders, just like if you were out training, are supposed to, you know, stop, when a train is coming. It\u2019s highly probable the UCI will give some sort of penalty for optics too, since everyone was talking about it. At the 2001 Paris\u2013Roubaix, for example, Belgian Classics star Peter Van Petegem was among several riders disqualified for crossing a closed railway line.<\/p>\n

Another win for Pogi<\/p>\n

Poga\u010dar rode away from Mathieu van der Poel on the final Oude Kwaremont to win the Tour of Flanders<\/a>. That\u2019s his third title and adds to his growing Monument tally. Evenepoel impressed on debut to take third after a long chase.<\/p>\n

Next up is Paris-Roubaix, where Pogi will try to do the impossible, and take the final Monument that has eluded him. (Even though he\u2019s only done it once, where he finished second.)
