{"id":586066,"date":"2026-04-06T15:19:34","date_gmt":"2026-04-06T15:19:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/586066\/"},"modified":"2026-04-06T15:19:34","modified_gmt":"2026-04-06T15:19:34","slug":"vegas-golden-knights-bet-on-john-tortorella-looking-good-as-knights-find-their-swagger","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/586066\/","title":{"rendered":"Vegas Golden Knights\u2019 bet on John Tortorella looking good as Knights find their swagger"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">EDMONTON \u2014 Betting on John Tortorella as a late-season replacement for head coach continues to pay off for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/vegas-golden-knights\/54\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/vegas-golden-knights\/54\" target=\"_blank\">Vegas Golden Knights<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/jack-eichel\/8478403\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/jack-eichel\/8478403\" target=\"_blank\">Jack Eichel<\/a> had three assists as the Golden Knights came away with a huge 5-1 victory over the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/edmonton-oilers\/22\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/edmonton-oilers\/22\" target=\"_blank\">Edmonton Oilers<\/a> on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/brett-howden\/8479353\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/brett-howden\/8479353\" target=\"_blank\">Brett Howden<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/jeremy-lauzon\/8478468\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/jeremy-lauzon\/8478468\" target=\"_blank\">Jeremy Lauzon<\/a> each had a goal and an assist and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/colton-sissons\/8476925\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/colton-sissons\/8476925\" target=\"_blank\">Colton Sissons<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/mark-stone\/8475913\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/mark-stone\/8475913\" target=\"_blank\">Mark Stone<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/rasmus-andersson\/8478397\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/rasmus-andersson\/8478397\" target=\"_blank\">Rasmus Andersson<\/a> also scored for the Golden Knights (35-26-16) who have won all three games since Tortorella replaced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/bruce-cassidy\/8446018\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/bruce-cassidy\/8446018\" target=\"_blank\">Bruce Cassidy<\/a> on the bench and are 3-0-2 in their last five contests.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cI think we\u2019re buying into the mindset of just playing fast hockey, checking, moving our feet and playing teams really tight and aggressively and getting up in people\u2019s faces,\u201d Sissons said. \u201cWe\u2019re kind of building our confidence back and our swag in that department, so it\u2019s been good.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Vegas moved one point back of both Edmonton and Anaheim, who share first place in the Pacific Division standings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cI think we\u2019re consistently trying to play fast, certainly playing north. We had a lot of good minutes tonight,\u201d said Tortorella, who joined Cassidy and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/gerard-gallant\/8447001\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/gerard-gallant\/8447001\" target=\"_blank\">Gerard Gallant<\/a> as the third coach in Golden Knights history to record wins in their first three games as Vegas bench boss.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cI thought (goalie <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/carter-hart\/8479394\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/carter-hart\/8479394\" target=\"_blank\">Carter Hart<\/a>) was really good. We had some hiccups here and there, but I thought we stayed within ourselves and kept playing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Hart recorded 31 saves to earn the win for Vegas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cHe just looks solid,\u201d Tortorella said. \u201cI know nothing about goaltending, but you can tell when a goaltender feels big. He looked big to me, he just feels solid and made some key saves at key times. He made a couple of saves on the power play, so it was good.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Lauzon hadn\u2019t scored in 112 games, stretching back to Feb. 22, 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cIt was a great moment. I was waiting for it for a long time,\u201d Lauzon said. \u201cI thought our team played unbelievable tonight and it\u2019s a huge win for our club.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/ivan-barbashev\/8477964\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/ivan-barbashev\/8477964\" target=\"_blank\">Ivan Barbashev<\/a> had two assists to give him 200 in his career.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Eichel assisted on the opening goal to help him reach his second-straight 80-point season. No other player has reached the mark for the Vegas franchise. Eichel also recorded his 95th multi-point game, tying <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/jonathan-marchessault\/8476539\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/jonathan-marchessault\/8476539\" target=\"_blank\">Jonathan Marchessault<\/a> for the second most in franchise history behind <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/mark-stone\/8475913\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/mark-stone\/8475913\" target=\"_blank\">Mark Stone<\/a> with 102, and his 25th three-point game with Vegas, tying Marchessault for second with the franchise, again behind Stone (31).<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Golden Knights were in need of a win against the Oilers, having lost all three of their previous games to them this season and nine of their last 10 overall, including falling in five games to Edmonton in the second round of last year\u2019s playoffs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cEverybody has bought in,\u201d Sissons said. \u201cWe knew the level of urgency that we needed to come out and play a tough game on the road. It\u2019s a tough place to play, against a rival and I think everybody showed up and I\u2019m proud of the effort.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Vegas win also represented Edmonton\u2019s first loss in regulation time to a divisional rival at home this season, falling to 9-1-2.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/evan-bouchard\/8480803\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/evan-bouchard\/8480803\" target=\"_blank\">Evan Bouchard<\/a> scored the lone goal for the Oilers (39-29-9) who saw a season-high five-game win streak come to an end.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cThey could have been, what, five points (back)? Now it\u2019s one, right? So, yeah, pretty big,\u201d said Oilers forward <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/trent-frederic\/8479365\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/trent-frederic\/8479365\" target=\"_blank\">Trent Frederic<\/a>, who retained his sense of humour when asked how the players reacted in the locker room after the loss.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s just bickering back and forth, everyone telling everyone they make too much money. Which is all true.
