(Photo: City of Mississauga)<\/p>\n<p>Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon residents are being advised to keep children and pets away from the Credit River as well as smaller creeks and streams as elevated water levels have created the potential for local flooding.<\/p>\n<p>Credit Valley Conservation, the organization that protects natural areas and watercourses in Peel\u2019s three municipalities and several other communities, issued a flood outlook statement on Saturday evening alerting people to potentially unsafe conditions due to heavy rainfall.<\/p>\n<p>The statement, which remains in effect until end of day on Monday, noted additional rain expected in the couple of days since Saturday\u2019s soaking across the region has increased the chances of dangerous conditions near water.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWater levels are elevated in some parts of the (Credit River) watershed. Flooding may occur along the Credit River and its major tributaries\u201d as a result of the rain, the conservation authority said. \u201cKeep family and pets away from all watercourses and low-lying areas, especially near culverts, bridges and dams.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A flood outlook statement is issued as an early notice of the potential for flooding based on weather forecast of heavy rain, snow melt, high wind or other conditions that could lead to high runoff, ice jams, shoreline flooding or erosion, CVC added.<\/p>\n<p>Officials said while flooding of the Credit River and its major tributaries is not expected, parents are urged to keep their children and pets away from watercourses as a precuation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLocal streams and rivers could become dangerous, especially in the vicinity of culverts, bridges and dams,\u201d CVC\u00a0 said, adding it\u2019s closely monitoring both the weather and water levels throughout the region.<\/p>\n<p>Conservation authority officials in Peel and across southern Ontario have been busy the last couple of months issuing numerous statements of varying degrees of concern related to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insauga.com\/closed-flooding-shuts-down-trail-to-the-public-in-mississauga\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">potential flooding due to the melting of a large snowpack left by the winter and heavy rains<\/a> brought on by warmer spring temperatures.<\/p>\n<p>        <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insauga.com\/editorial-guidelines\" class=\"editorial-guidelines-link d-block mb-4\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n            INsauga&#8217;s Editorial Standards and Policies        <\/a><\/p>\n<p>Last 30 Days: 26,085 Votes<\/p>\n<p>All Time: 1,278,748 Votes<\/p>\n<p>    1983 VOTES<br \/>\n    Do you think high-speed rail between Toronto and Quebec City will be built?    <\/p>\n<p>\tWIN A $100 GIFT CARD<\/p>\n<p>Subscribe to INsauga\u2019s daily email newsletter for a chance to win a $100 Amazon gift card.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A trail at a Mississauga park was flooded by heavy rainfall in March.
