{"id":586349,"date":"2026-04-06T18:26:09","date_gmt":"2026-04-06T18:26:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/586349\/"},"modified":"2026-04-06T18:26:09","modified_gmt":"2026-04-06T18:26:09","slug":"metro-grocery-chain-employees-on-strike-amid-fruit-vegetable-shortage-in-quebec","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/586349\/","title":{"rendered":"Metro grocery chain employees on strike amid fruit, vegetable shortage in Quebec"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Metro\u2019s warehouse and headquarters employees continued their strike demanding better wages Monday as fruit and vegetable shortages hit grocery store shelves in Montreal.<\/p>\n<p>More than 550 workers at Metro Laval distribution centre, the headquarters and the M\u00e9rite warehouse in RDP, belonging to the Syndicat des travailleurs et travailleuses des \u00e9piciers unis Metro-Richelieu-CSN, took to the picket lines after voting to reject the grocery giant\u2019s salary increase proposals.<\/p>\n<p>The distribution centre supplies fruit and vegetable to some 1000 Metro group stores like Metro and Super C throughout Quebec.<\/p>\n<p>In a press release, the union said, the company offered them an 11 per cent raise over five years, including one per cent annual raises for those in the lower salary grades.<\/p>\n<p>Matthieu Lafontaine, the union\u2019s president, said the members were angry and accused the company of not coming to the negotiating table.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInflation over the past few years has been very hard on our members.
