Toronto Blue Jays<\/a> catcher Alejandro Kirk<\/a> will undergo surgery on Tuesday to repair his fractured left thumb, MLB.com\u2019s Keegan Matheson reports. <\/p>\n

Kirk was placed on the 15-day injured list on Saturday.<\/p>\n

The 27-year-old was struck on the thumb of his glove (left) hand on a foul tip off the bat of Chicago White Sox<\/a> outfielder Austin Hays<\/a> in the 10th inning of Friday\u2019s series opener.<\/p>\n

In 20 at-bats in 2026, Kirk had three hits, one home run, and two RBI.<\/p>\n

Kirk played in 130 games last season, hitting .282 with 15 home runs, 76 RBI and 45 runs scored as he was named to his second career All-Star team.<\/p>\n

Brandon Valenzuela, 25, started the season in Triple-A and was recalled in Kirk\u2019s place. He went 1-for-3 with a single in his MLB debut in Sunday\u2019s series finale against the White Sox.<\/p>\n

Blue Jays select Fleming<\/p>\n

The Jays also selected left-handed pitcher Josh Fleming<\/a> to the Major League roster and designated right-handed pitcher Austin Voth<\/a> for assignment.<\/p>\n

Fleming will be available for Monday\u2019s series opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a> at Rogers Centre, a rematch of last year\u2019s World Series.<\/p>\n

The 29-year-old Fleming last pitched in the MLB during the 2024 season, posting a 4.02 ERA over 25 appearances, including three starts, for the Pittsburgh Pirates<\/a>. Fleming has a 4.77 ERA over 80 games with the Tampa Bay Rays<\/a> and Pirates.<\/p>\n

Voth, 26, made one appearance this season for the Jays, allowing one earned run over 2.2 innings of work during Sunday\u2019s loss to the Chicago White Sox<\/a>.<\/p>\n

After sweeping the Athletics<\/a> to open the season, the Blue Jays have dropped five of their last six games, including a three-game sweep by the White Sox this past weekend, to fall to 4-5 in 2026.<\/p>\n
