While many countries are lowering or eliminating taxes on gas temporarily to help consumers, Prime Minister Mark Carney is simply \u201cmonitoring the situation\u201d. How kind of him. His Liberals are responsible for the mess this country has become. Many Canadians are having a hard time keeping a roof over their heads and food on the table, yet all he will do is monitor the high gas prices.<\/p>\n

When will Canadians wake up? Carney\u2019s not going to do anything to help the suffering unless it benefits him. This is not leadership.<\/p>\n
Canada could be self-sufficient as far as oil production goes and we don\u2019t belong to OPEC so there\u2019s no excuse for Canadians to be paying the price we are at the pumps. The U.S. refines most of our oil even though we have at least 16 refineries in operation; unfortunately not many are equipped to handle the heavy crude.<\/p>\n

Why isn\u2019t Carney actually investing in Canada? He claims he is, but those are only words.<\/p>\n

I recently read the comments of two individuals on the subject of Michael Rousseau\u2019s use (or rather non-use) of French in his condolence speech following the deaths of the two Air Canada pilots at LaGuardia Airport in New York.<\/p>\n
Hissy fit? Petty and childish? Last time I checked, Canada is still a bilingual country, the two official languages being English and French. Air Canada is an internationally recognized company and, by extension, represents Canadian values. If the co-pilot (from Ontario) was entitled to the entire speech in English, why then wasn\u2019t the French-speaking pilot from Quebec not entitled to at least one or two sentences in French, especially since Mr. Rousseau has supposedly had 600-odd hours of French classes? It is this type of condescending and arrogant attitude that so frustrates French Canadians. And it has been going on for centuries.<\/p>\n

I invite every Canadian to visit Quebec City\u2019s historical neighborhood. As you stand in the Notre-Dame-des-Victoires courtyard, where Samuel de Champlain\u2019s house once stood, let the history soak in. I think you\u2019ll agree that French Canada has earned its place in the Canadian family.<\/p>\n
