A Winnipeg school recently teamed up with a local artist to create a meaningful art project.<\/p>\n

Students at Faraday School worked together to create a two-panel mural representing their school community, with every student contributing a piece.<\/p>\n

Collaboration With Local Artist<\/p>\n

Teacher Sarah Ducharme connected with local artist Cat Hues, also known as Pink Panda, to bring the project to life. The artwork was inspired by the message, “We are stronger together.”<\/p>\n

With funding from the Manitoba Arts Council, students spent five weeks working on the mural.<\/p>\n

“Because it was a long project, many skills were shared, and I wanted students to experience the entire process of creating and completing the mural,” said Hues in an interview with the Winnipeg School Division<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Students Lead the Creative Process<\/p>\n

The project began with brainstorming and mapping out ideas, helping students connect their artwork to their personal identity. In the end, each student created an individual tile to represent themselves.<\/p>\n

One student said her favourite part was working on the details of the painting, while another said they enjoyed being able to draw what they liked.<\/p>\n

Every Student Represented<\/p>\n

Older students contributed by creating background elements such as flowers and butterflies, while younger students added handprints to the mural.<\/p>\n

The individual tiles were then assembled into two large panels, now displayed above the school stairwell.<\/p>\n

Principal Jennifer Cox says the piece reflects the school\u2019s commitment to respect and supporting one another, adding it will serve as a lasting representation of the Faraday School community.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A Winnipeg school recently teamed up with a local artist to create a meaningful art project.
