COLUMBIA, Mo. \u2013 Central Michigan’s Philippe Yturralde<\/a> shot a 2-under par 68 on Tuesday to charge up the leaderboard in the final round of the Tiger Intercollegiate at Old Hawthorne Golf Club.

\nYturralde, a redshirt junior from La Mesa, Calif., began the final round tied for 72nd and his 2-under, which tied for the best round of the day in the 100-player field, moved him into a tie for 35th.
\n\u00a0
\n“It’s always great to see any of my guys finish well,” CMU coach Kevin Jennings<\/a> said. “Finishing well in any round is an important part of winning, or setting yourself up to win. It was good to see him round everything out and bring it back.”
\n\u00a0
\nYturralde opened the 54-hole tournament on Monday with a 7-over 77 and then posted a second-round 1-over 71.
\n\u00a0
\nHe was 3-over through his first three holes of the second round and then settled in to play his final 15 holes in 2-under.
\n\u00a0
\nHis final round included four birdies against two bogeys. He finished the tournament with 10 birdies, tying for the fourth most in the field.
\n\u00a0
\n“He was rolling the ball well,” Jennings said. “We’ve been working on some things, getting him a little more comfortable over the ball. (Monday) he tugged on my collar and told me that he was experiencing some challenges with his ball striking.
\n\u00a0
\n“We talked a little bit, gave him a little something, and he was able to understand and feel that and incorporated that and hit the driver and his irons a little better and rolled the rock on a very, very solid, championship-style golf course.”
\n\u00a0
\nAlso for the Chippewas on Tuesday, Aydan Downer<\/a> closed with a 5-over 75, Keith Hunter<\/a> shot 76, Hudson Vedder<\/a> posted a 78, and Jeffrey Andrus<\/a> carded an 80.
\n\u00a0
\nDowner finished at 15-over 225 and tied for 79th; Hunter finished 19-over 229 and tied for 88th; Andrus finished at 23-over 233; and Vedder finished at 26-over 236.
\n\u00a0
\nThe Chippewas posted a 297 team score in the final round, their best of the three-round tournament, for a 901 total. They placed 19th in the 19-team field.
\n\u00a0
\nHost Missouri carded a final-round 283 for an 833 total and a seven-shot win over runner-up Iowa State. St. Mary’s (Calif.) placed third at 845.
\n\u00a0
\nMissouri’s Veikka Viskari closed with a 1-over 71 for a 6-under 204 total and a two-shot victory over Alvaro Pastor of Tarleton State.

\nThe Chippewas next go to the Bluegrass Invitational in Lexington, Ky. April 13-14.

\n“We’re still relatively young,” Jennings said. “In human age, we’re still not ready for school yet. The idea is to continue to move our program and put it on a trajectory that we can be competitive with a lot of those big-name schools that were in this event, which is why we’re competing with them on such a high-end golf course, so that we understand and know where we want to be, and what direction we’re headed.

\n“They’re training well and doing better. We’re starting to see glimpses here and there from each one of them and what they’re developing.”
