The Toronto Blue Jays<\/a> placed outfielder Addison Barger<\/a> on the 10-day injured list with a left ankle sprain, the team announced Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The move is retroactive to April 6. <\/p>\n

Barger was removed from Sunday\u2019s game against the Chicago White Sox<\/a> with discomfort in both ankles. He appeared to be labouring after extending to reach first base while attempting to beat out a groundball in the bottom of the third inning and was replaced by Jesus Sanchez<\/a> later in the game. He was then held out of Monday\u2019s game. <\/p>\n

Infielder Tyler Fitzgerald<\/a>, acquired last week in a trade with the San Francisco Giants<\/a>, joined the Jays\u2019 taxi squad on Monday and was added to the roster Tuesday afternoon as a corresponding move to Barger.<\/p>\n

The 26-year-old Barger has struggled to start the season, slashing .053\/.174\/.105 with two RBI in eight games.<\/p>\n

Fitzgerald, 28, hit .217 in 72 games last season with the Giants. <\/p>\n

Corbin called up<\/p>\n

Veteran left-hander Patrick Corbin<\/a> will join the Jays Tuesday night as the Jays continue to take injury hits in their starting rotation.<\/p>\n

Corbin joined the Blue Jays on a one-year, $1 million deal last week and threw one game with Single-A Dunedin, allowing one run in five innings.<\/p>\n

Corbin had a 4.40 ERA in 31 outings last season for the Texas Rangers<\/a> and went unsigned into the season. However, with starters Trey Yesavage<\/a>, Shane Bieber<\/a>, Jose Berrios<\/a> and Cody Ponce on the injured list, the Jays turned to the free agent market to help fortify their rotation depth.<\/p>\n

Right-hander Max Scherzer<\/a> also left Monday 14-2 loss to the Dodgers after two innings with what the team later described as forearm tendinitis. Manager John Schneider told reporters after the game he was fairly confident Scherzer would make his next start but added the team would evaluate him throughout the week.<\/p>\n

Left-hander Josh Fleming<\/a> was designated for assignment in a corresponding move to Corbin\u2019s call-up. He allowed four runs in three innings Monday night against L.A.<\/p>\n
