{"id":589139,"date":"2026-04-08T00:37:17","date_gmt":"2026-04-08T00:37:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/589139\/"},"modified":"2026-04-08T00:37:17","modified_gmt":"2026-04-08T00:37:17","slug":"letters-legault-love-fest-leaves-much-untold","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/589139\/","title":{"rendered":"Letters: Legault love fest leaves much untold"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Re: \u201c<a rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/epaper.montrealgazette.com\/article\/281582362182571\">\u2018Cynicism must not replace hope\u2019: Legault<\/a>\u201d (The Gazette, April 4)<\/p>\n<p>Besides a candid moment of revelation when the \u201clittle guy from Ste-Anne-de Bellevue\u201d confessed he still felt like an impostor, having achieved the top political post in Quebec, the rest of the tearful love fest at Fran\u00e7ois Legault\u2019s final day in the National Assembly as premier was less than frank about his record and that of his CAQ government. <\/p>\n<p>Perhaps it isn\u2019t surprising that the focus was on the feel-good aspects of Legault\u2019s reign and not the policies and decisions that left the province with historic-high budget deficits, a deeply divided population and uncertainty about the future, even though he exhorted Quebecers not to give up hope or succumb to cynicism. <\/p>\n<p>Legault was showered with love and admiration as he was bid farewell, but I believe that many Quebecers \u2014 still smarting from his government\u2019s nationalistic agenda, which has caused pain and division among the population \u2014 were not shedding tears of gratitude for the departing premier. <\/p>\n<p>Goldie Olszynko, Mile End<\/p>\n<p>When secularism takes a holiday<\/p>\n<p>Re: \u201c<a rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/epaper.montrealgazette.com\/article\/281560887346091\">What\u2019s open and closed over Easter weekend<\/a>\u201d (The Gazette, April 4)<\/p>\n<p>With all the talk and legislation about secularism in the workforce, we continue to close stores, government services, banking institutions, and more on Good Friday, Easter Sunday and even Easter Monday.
