Former Brad Jones Racing mechanic, Harry Alexander will make the switch to Trackhouse Racing to fulfill his NASCAR dream.<\/p>\n
The 25-year-old spent the last seven seasons as a Supercar mechanic, most recently for Kiwi Andre Heimgartner and will soon be working alongside Shane van Gisbergen \u2013 a welcome change in dynamic.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt will definitely be nice being on the same team as him [Van Gisbergen] rather than competing against him as I did for many years in Supercars,\u201d Alexander told Sport Nation\u2019s Millsy & Guy.<\/p>\n
The opportunity to become a NASCAR mechanic was presented to Alexander in a once in a lifetime trip to the United States where Alexander attended the world’s top level of sprintcar racing. <\/p>\n
Through a line of Aussies who knew other Aussies, Alexander shared his resume with Shane van Gisbergen’s crew chief which quickly led to a job offer at Trackhouse Racing. <\/p>\n
Alexander said his mechanical role will remain as it was at Brad Jones Racing, however the tyre changing role may differ, as the new team has full-time former professional athletes whose specialise at the job.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe jackman on the crew that I\u2019m going to work for, he\u2019s an ex-NFL linebacker.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a very physical pit stop to do so they figured that the big, strong athletes who have been in the weight programmes their whole lives can transition over to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n
As NASCAR races 36 times per season, compared to 14 in Supercars, Alexander says adjusting to that workload will be the biggest challenge.<\/p>\n
