Toronto Blue Jays<\/a> catcher Alejandro Kirk<\/a> had successful surgery on his fractured thumb on Tuesday and is expected to miss six weeks, MLB.com\u2019s Keegan Matheson reports.<\/p>\n

Kirk fractured the thumb on his left hand in the 10th inning against the Chicago White Sox<\/a> on Friday. A foul tip struck Kirk just beside the webbing of his glove.<\/p>\n

Kirk was hitting .150 (3-for-20) in five games before suffering the injury. He has one home run and two runs batted in this season.<\/p>\n

Ponce expected to miss six months<\/p>\n

In other injury news, starting pitcher Cody Ponce is scheduled to have surgery to repair a right ACL sprain he suffered in his first start of the season.<\/p>\n

According to Schneider, Ponce will have the surgery at some point next week and the estimated recovery time is six months.<\/p>\n

The theme of the first two weeks of the season for the Blue Jays have been injuries. It was announced Tuesday that outfielder Addison Barger was placed on the IL with an ankle injury<\/a>, and starting pitcher Max Scherzer<\/a> was pulled after two innings in the 14-2 loss on Monday with elbow tendinitis.<\/p>\n

Entering play on Tuesday, the Blue Jays have nine players on the Injured List: OF Addison Barger<\/a>, C Alejandro Kirk<\/a>, RHP Trey Yesavage<\/a>, RHP Shane Bieber<\/a>, RHP Yimi Garcia<\/a>, RHP Jose Berrios<\/a>, RHP Cody Ponce, OF Anthony Santander<\/a> and RHP Bowden Francis<\/a>.<\/p>\n
