\n\tOprah Winfrey<\/a> stopped by The Late Show<\/a> last night and flipped the interview to urge host Stephen Colbert<\/a> to reflect on the late-night show\u2019s impending end. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe visit started as a conventional interview, marking Winfrey\u2019s fourth sit-down with Colbert. But in the midst of sharing an anecdote about Paul McCartney, Winfrey asked the host, \u201cHow are you feeling about the whole thing?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cDon\u2019t go Oprah on me now\u2026,\u201d Colbert replied before inviting Winfrey to switch seats with him. After settling down behind his desk, Winfrey acknowledged, \u201cThis is so exciting.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tSo I am wondering, as you stand here at the threshold of what\u2019s about to be done and what you\u2019re stepping into, what do you feel like, in this moment, you most want to release?\u201d Winfrey asked. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWhat do I want to release?\u201d Colbert asked. She clarified, \u201cTo let go of.\u201d Colbert responded that he didn\u2019t want to let go of anything yet. \u201cI still have a white-knuckle grip on all these people who I love, who I\u2019ve worked with all these years, including those people over there,\u201d Colbert said, pointing to his crew and his house band. He added, \u201cAnd the audience, obviously.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWhen you and I are talking to each other, there\u2019s a third person in the conversation, and it\u2019s the audience\u2014and they are doing their job better than you and I can,\u201d Colbert said. \u201cIf I\u2019m asking questions, I want to make sure I\u2019m hitting all the questions. And you might be saying, \u2018I want to hit all the things I want to answer.\u2019 But there is something else going on besides what we are doing. The audience is very pure in their engagement in our conversation.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe continued, \u201cIf there\u2019s somebody I need to talk to on a corporate level [and] the conversation is not going to go that well, I will ask my assistant and someone else to sit at the desk across from me so I have an \u2018audience\u2019 to hear me have the phone call, so that I will say what I actually feel. Because the audience makes me do it more than\u00a0I\u00a0will make me do it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWinfrey concluded her \u201cinterview\u201d with Colbert by sharing a sweet farewell. \u201d I just want to say to you, thank you so much,\u201d she said. \u201cThank you so much for holding the space for laughter.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Late Show will come to an end<\/a> on May 21. CBS announced the cancellation last July, citing financial issues at the network. Many of the show\u2019s guests have recently been paying tribute to Colbert, who has hosted for over a decade.
