Victims of crimes have a new \u201csafe space\u201d to interact with officers in a \u201ctrauma-informed\u201d setting north of Brampton.<\/p>\n
The initiative is a joint effort by the Caledon OPP and Caledon-Dufferin Victim Services (CDVS), giving victims a quiet, private, and supportive environment within the Caledon detachment.<\/p>\n
The space is designed to reflect a \u201ctrauma-informed and culturally responsive approach,\u201d offering access to religious, faith-based, cultural, and nondenominational comfort items \u201cto meet the diverse needs of the community.\u201d<\/p>\n
Stocked with items like sacred texts, prayer mats, rosaries, grounding tools and blankets, and a dedicated area for children with backpacks filled with essential items to support individuals in need during a challenging situation.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe environment is intended to help reduce anxiety, support emotional regulation, and promote a sense of safety while statements are taken,\u201d the OPP says.<\/p>\n
The space will help police foster \u201ca more holistic and compassionate approach to community safety.\u201d<\/p>\n
