{"id":591401,"date":"2026-04-09T00:53:22","date_gmt":"2026-04-09T00:53:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/591401\/"},"modified":"2026-04-09T00:53:22","modified_gmt":"2026-04-09T00:53:22","slug":"photos-new-9-storey-science-medicine-and-biomedical-hub-coming-to-toronto-university","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/591401\/","title":{"rendered":"PHOTOS: New 9-storey science, medicine and biomedical hub coming to Toronto university"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The University of Toronto is getting a new 388,000-square-foot research and education hub to push for science, medicine and biomedical innovation.<\/p>\n<p>The new nine-storey building will bring together the Temerty Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Arts &amp; Science at the heart of the St. George campus in downtown Toronto, on the site of the Medical Sciences Building\u2019s west wing.<\/p>\n<p>Envisioned as \u201ca defining space for the university\u2019s next century,\u201d the new Temerty Building will also serve as a central gathering place for convocation receptions, alumni reunions and other U of T events.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Temerty Building will be an iconic new landmark where people, ideas and disciplines can converge in the service of human health, science and learning,\u201d U of T President Melanie Woodin said in a statement. \u201cIt will also provide a beautiful central venue for the celebration of key milestones in the life of the university community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The university released photos of the building\u2019s design earlier this week.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-807134 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Interior-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1123\" height=\"748\"  \/> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-807135 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Interior-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1125\" height=\"750\"  \/> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-807136 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Exterior-7.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1161\" height=\"774\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>A $250-million gift to U of T from James and Louise Temerty in 2020 directed a significant portion toward the building, builds on a vision first articulated in Temerty Medicine\u2019s 2018\u20132023 Academic Strategic Plan, the university says.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur family is deeply honoured to support this project,\u201d Jim Temerty said in a statement. \u201cThe Temerty Building will be a place where brilliant minds from across disciplines come together to solve the toughest health challenges of our time. We are excited to see it come to life and to know it will serve generations of students, researchers and health leaders \u2014 and make a difference to the health of people here in Canada and around the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The building will bring together researchers studying the behaviour of cells and biological systems with those focused on biomedical and clinical outcomes, \u201ccreating new opportunities for connection and discovery across disciplines,\u201d U of T says.<\/p>\n<p>U of T will use these spaces to equip the next generation of health-care professionals with the skills and experience needed to lead a rapidly evolving system.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy bringing together researchers and learners from both faculties, the Temerty Building will spark new collaborations and lay the foundation for discoveries that can improve lives around the world.
