Jiri Prochazka<\/a> (32-5-1 MMA, 6-2 UFC,) the No. 2 contender at light heavyweight and other half of Saturday night\u2019s UFC 327 main event, has already had a busy week in Miami ahead of his UFC Light Heavyweight Championship fight versus No. 3 contender Carlos Ulberg<\/a> (13-1 MMA, 9-1 UFC.) Tuesday night, he delivered the ceremonial first pitch<\/a> ahead of the Miami Marlins\u2019 home game with the Cincinnati Reds.<\/p>\n

The appearance at the old ballgame came one day after Jiri Prochazka and Carlos Ulberg had their first staredown of fight week,\u00a0<\/a>taking place aboard a vessel. Wednesday, the No. 2 contender at light heavyweight continued his pre-fight obligations, attending UFC 327 media day.<\/p>\n

Saturday night\u2019s headlining contest is a high-stakes affair, with the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship, last held by Alex Pereira, being vacated as of the main event\u2019s commencement. Should Prochazka emerge from the fight victorious, he\u2019ll have won the title at 205 lbs for the second time, having previously held the belt in 2022<\/a>. No defense of Prochazka\u2019s title was made due to injury.<\/p>\n

Jiri Prochazka on Fight with Carlos Ulberg<\/p>\n

During the Wednesday media availability, Prochazka discussed the upcoming battle for the belt.<\/p>\n

\u201cI like the matchup,\u201d Jiri Prochazka said. \u201cCarlos is a great stand-up fighter. I like to fight in stand-up or whenever we go in a fight. He proved that he\u2019s a really good striker and in movement. He has good movement and really precise punches.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

From there, he talked about how he matches up with Ulberg from a technique standpoint.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom all my opponents, his style is very specific, very systematic,\u201d he continued \u201c[He\u2019s] really somebody who I need right now, I need to face.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jiri Prochazka Hopes to Speed Things Up in UFC 327<\/p>\n

As mentioned, the UFC 327 main event could mean the start of Prochazka\u2019s second reign as UFC Light Heavyweight Champion. When he won the championship in 2022 versus Glover Teixeira, he had to go into the fifth and final round of the fight before he locked in a rear-naked choke.<\/p>\n

In more recent times, Jiri Prochazka\u2019s Oct. 4 fight in UFC 320 saw him take the fight into the third round ahead of a knockout victory by way of a left hook. A second-round knockout from ground and pound shots was his fastest finish in his last three wins.<\/p>\n

Prochazka\u2019s hopeful to get the job done in a more expedient fashion this time around, something he told the assembled press at the pre-fight junket earlier Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat means, for me, to handle all these keys, how to unlock all this primal aggression inside myself to go there to the fight, like to the second round,\u201d he mentioned, \u201cto start the first round like a second round. This is something we, with the team, are focused to not start slowly, [to not take] too long, watch the opponent, too much movement.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jiri Prochazka to Become New Dad After UFC 327<\/p>\n

Much like Dominick Reyes, who will be fighting earlier on UFC 327\u2019s main card<\/a>, Jiri Prochazka is taking on a new challenge in his life: Fatherhood. His daughter\u2019s due date is slated for this coming Monday<\/a>, meaning that his girlfriend will be homebound in the Czech Republic for the fight over the weekend.<\/p>\n

Because of the timing of the due date, this fight week has taken on a different meaning for Prochazka.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince I knew that there will be a new life in my life and I\u2019ll be a father, there first came a lot of thoughts about responsibility, about the end of my free time, and all these things,\u201d he mentioned. \u201cI don\u2019t have free time. Everything is about the fight, about the preparation. I started to work more to believe to my girlfriend that we can handle that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI started to work on our relationship to be deeply more connected and to understand each other more,\u201d he continued, \u201cbecause I believe this part of [the] game, to be a father, is not just about one person, it\u2019s like in a pair. That was the one thing and it gave me a big relax in what I do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jiri Prochazka is a seasoned veteran of the world of MMA. Saturday\u2019s contest in UFC 327 is his 39th as a professional.<\/p>\n

Given his current family situation, the fight itself almost seems inconsequential. Whatever result is read on Saturday nigh, those are just words.<\/p>\n
