NFL reporter Dianna Russini made questionable comments about her marriage two months before photographs showing her holding hands<\/a> with New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel surfaced.<\/p>\n

In a February 5 episode of the Stugotz and Company<\/a> podcast, Russini discussed how exhausting it was working in sports media in the days leading up to this year\u2019s Super Bowl Sunday on February 8.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wasn\u2019t in shape for this,\u201d she said of her busy schedule. \u201cFree agency, you rev up \u2014 you\u2019re ready for it. Like: \u2018I\u2019m going to be committed to this for 12 days. I\u2019m not going to sleep, I\u2019m not going to eat, my family\u2019s gonna hate me, my husband\u2019s gonna threaten divorce,\u2019 but we signed up for this. This\u2026 I was not ready.\u201d<\/p>\n

Russini, 43 \u2014 who is the New York Times\u2019 top NFL reporter \u2014 then continued to joke about splitting from her husband<\/a> of five years, Shake Shack executive Kevin Goldschmidt. (Vrabel, 50, has been married to wife Jen since 1999, and they share sons Tyler, 25, and Carter, 24.)<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re getting divorced at the end of the year,\u201d Russini said jokingly on the podcast. \u201cWe\u2019re going through it.\u201d<\/p>\n

She then added that Goldschmidt \u2014 with whom she shares two children \u2014 \u201cdoesn\u2019t even know who I am right now,\u201d explaining: \u201cWe\u2019ve never been more disconnected in our lives.\u201d<\/p>\n

Russini said that her mother \u201clets me know my marriage is falling apart,\u201d adding that her mom once told her: \u201cI\u2019m starting to think he\u2019s got a girlfriend. And you know what\u2026 Good for him!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201c[My mom is] out here throwing things at my head,\u201d Russini said. \u201cNow I\u2019m wondering, \u2018Uh, that one girl in his office is really pretty. Shoot. This makes sense. I\u2019m going to call him later \u2014 naked.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

After Page Six<\/a> published the photos on Tuesday, April 7, of Russini and Vrabel appearing to hold hands and embrace on March 28 at a luxury resort in Arizona, the NFL coach told the publication that the pictures \u201cshow a completely innocent interaction and any suggestion otherwise is laughable.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another video went viral after the recent report. In a clip shared by College Transfer Portal on X<\/a> from ESPN morning show Get Up in 2021, Russini \u2014 who was comparing her relationship to those who overshare on social media \u2014 said, \u201cI\u2019m married to someone average. I don\u2019t post a lot about him. If I was married to someone beautiful, I\u2019d over-post too.\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked moments later to clarify her comments<\/a>, she explained, \u201cWe\u2019re average together.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd you know what the worst part is,\u201d she added. \u201cHe sent me a text during that segment \u2014 not watching \u2018cause he actually works for a living \u2014 and he said, \u2018Good luck today. Be great on Get Up.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo the guy\u2019s got a heart of gold, and here I am on national TV killing him,\u201d she said, laughing. \u201cLook, we\u2019re average together, but he makes me above average because he married me. I am so sorry, I need to really stop killing my husband on television. I\u2019m going to be divorced by Christmas!\u201d<\/p>\n

Russini also denied any impropriety with Vrabel<\/a>, saying in a statement, \u201cLike most journalists in the NFL, reporters interact with sources away from stadiums and other venues.\u201d<\/p>\n
