\n\tJames Gunn\u2019s plan to add more star power to his \u201cSuperman<\/a>\u201d sequel \u201cMan of Tomorrow\u201d continues: the DC Studios co-chief is currently casting the role of Maxima, an alien queen who has been both an antagonist and potential love interest for the Kryptonian superhero.<\/p>\n

\n\tSources confirm to Variety that finalists for the sought-after role are Adria Arjona<\/a> (\u201cAndor\u201d), Eva De Dominici (\u201cThe Cleaning Lady\u201d), Sydney Chandler (\u201cAlien: Earth\u201d) and Grace Van Patten (\u201cTell Me Lies\u201d). The actresses have tested for the part, and a deal is imminent, as shooting on the film starts late next week in Atlanta. <\/p>\n

\n\tDC Studios declined to comment. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cSuperman: Man of Tomorrow,\u201d written and directed by Gunn, is slated for release on July 9, 2027. David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult return as the Man of Steel and Lex Luthor; but this time, the legendary adversaries are forced to work together to defeat an even bigger threat: the super-intelligent antagonist Brainiac (played by German star Lars Eidinger).<\/p>\n

\n\tAaron Pierre also join the super ensemble cast \u2014 which already boasts Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Sara Sampaio (Eve Teschmacher), Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl), Nathan Fillion (Guy Gardner) and Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific). But first, Pierre will make his DC Studios debut as Green Lantern John Stewart in the HBO series \u201cLanterns,\u201d where he coincidentally stars opposite Chandler\u2019s father, Kyle Chandler.<\/p>\n

\n\tLast summer, Gunn and Peter Safran kicked off their new DC Universe by reviving Superman \u2014 and his reporter alter ego, Clark Kent \u2014 for a high-flying, yet surprisingly sentimental adventure, which grossed $618 million worldwide. The action in \u201cMan of Tomorrow\u201d follows that of \u201cSupergirl,\u201d starring Milly Alcock as Superman\u2019s younger cousin Kara Zor-El. (Corenswet is featured in a small role.) That movie, directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira, flies into theaters on June 26.<\/p>\n

\n\tArjona\u2019s name has been bandied about by DC fans before. Reports speculated that she might be in the running to play Wonder Woman<\/a>, but Gunn threw cold water on the hot gossip. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI follow Adria on Instagram, but everybody came out [and thought], \u2018He just followed her, that means she\u2019s Wonder Woman.\u2019 She\u2019d be a great Wonder Woman, by the way,\u201d Gunn told Extra, mentioning that he\u2019d cast Arjona in his 2016 film \u201cThe Belko Experiment.\u201d \u201cWe\u2019ve been friends and have known each other since that time. I followed her then, I didn\u2019t just follow her.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThat considered, Arjona is no stranger to the world of genre entertainment after delivering a standout performance in the Star Wars series \u201cAndor.\u201d She also demonstrated her versatility with comedic turns in Netflix\u2019s \u201cHit Man\u201d and Neon\u2019s \u201cSplitsville.\u201d Arjona is next set to star opposite Michael B. Jordan in his \u201cThomas Crown Affair\u201d remake<\/a> for Amazon MGM Studios. She is repped by CAA, Anonymous Content, Brillstein Entertainment Partners and Goodman Genow.<\/p>\n

\n\tDe Dominici was among the stars of the Fox drama \u201cThe Cleaning Lady,\u201d and she\u2019ll next appear in Peter Farrelly\u2019s comedy \u201cBalls Up,\u201d which launches April 15 on Prime Video. She is repped by Gersh, Twelve Entertainment, Untitled Entertainment and Hansen Jacobson.<\/p>\n

\n\tChandler leads the FX series \u201cAlien: Earth,\u201d playing the humanoid robot Wendy. The show, from \u201cFargo\u201d creator Noah Hawley, has a second season forthcoming. She is repped by UTA and Jackoway Austen.<\/p>\n

\n\tVan Patten is best known for starring in Hulu\u2019s soapy series \u201cTell Me Lies,\u201d and she also portrayed Amanda Knox in the streamer\u2019s limited series, \u201cThe Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox.\u201d She is repped by WME, Brookside Artist Management and Sloane Offer.<\/p>\n
