EDMONTON \u2013 Police in Alberta say a 47-year-old man is accused of human trafficking offences in the Edmonton area involving five women.<\/p>\n

ALERT Edmonton\u2019s Human Trafficking unit says Jonathan Allard was arrested March 26 and charged with 26 criminal charges, including trafficking, forcible confinement and assault.<\/p>\n

Investigators say they believe there could be more victims.<\/p>\n

Police say the investigation started in June when one of his alleged victims contacted police for help.<\/p>\n

She alleges she was recruited via social media to move to Edmonton and was then forced into the sex trade by Allard.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Police say he was allegedly involved in arranging sexual services, communicating with clients, collecting money and controlling the victims.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe know there are at least five other victims. We would like to speak to them and anyone else who has been exploited by Allard,\u201d ALERT Staff Sgt. Chris Hayes said in a news release Wednesday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThese are extreme circumstances with life-altering impact and trauma.\u201d<\/p>\n

ALERT, or the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams, is an integrated, specialized policing agency in the province aimed at combating serious and organized crime.\u00a0<\/p>\n
