TORONTO \u2014 When it comes to evaluating CFL Draft prospects, few know what it takes better than Tyson and Jalen Philpot.<\/p>\n
The former Calgary Dinos standouts turned CFL playmakers have been in those same shoes not long ago, navigating the draft process and working to make an impression on scouts across the league.<\/p>\n
So when they speak on the next wave of talent, it carries weight.<\/p>\n
And this year, one name stands out close to home.<\/p>\n
\u201cFirst and foremost, I\u2019ve got to shout out my guy, Matt Sibley,\u201d Tyson told CFL.ca. \u201cHe\u2019s a Calgary receiver and, from what I heard, he was turning heads at the combine. That doesn\u2019t surprise me at all.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s a homegrown Calgary guy and I can\u2019t wait to see him get into the league.\u201d<\/p>\n
RELATED \u00a0<\/p>\n Sibley, who impressed at the CFL Combine presented by Anytime Fitness Canada, has quickly emerged as one of the more intriguing receiver prospects in this year\u2019s class, drawing praise not just for his testing, but for how it translates on the field.<\/p>\n It\u2019s something Jalen has seen up close.<\/p>\n \u201cMatt Sibley, for sure,\u201d he said. \u201cHe had a great combine. I actually got to train with him a few days before he headed out to (Edmonton) when I was back in Calgary.<\/p>\n \u201cJust seeing his speed, the way he runs routes, I\u2019m not surprised at all by what scouts were saying. He\u2019s such a smooth route runner, has strong hands, he\u2019s good after the catch and he\u2019s a tough player.<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s kind of the epitome of what Calgary Dinos receivers are. There\u2019s a good lineage there.\u201d<\/p>\n While Sibley headlines the Philpots\u2019 watch list, he\u2019s not the only name catching Tyson\u2019s attention.<\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s another guy, Malick Meiga out of Montreal,\u201d he added. \u201cHe ran a great 40. He might not be in the CFL right away, but he looks great. I\u2019ve watched him train and he\u2019s definitely someone to keep an eye on.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n As the draft approaches, endorsements like these highlight just how closely current players follow the next generation, especially when it hits close to home.<\/p>\n For the Philpots, it\u2019s about more than just evaluation.<\/p>\n It\u2019s about seeing the next Calgary product take the next step.<\/p>\n While the Philpot brothers highlighted offensive standouts, another CFL star is keeping an eye on a defensive prospect with a familiar background.<\/p>\n For Nathan Rourke, that player is defensive back Jett Elad.<\/p>\n \u201cHe was a DB when I was at Ohio, he was a freshman during my senior year,\u201d Rourke told CFL.ca. \u201cHe\u2019s moved around a bit since then and finished at Rutgers, but he\u2019s a super athletic player.<\/p>\n \u201cHe was making things tough for me on scout team even back then, so it\u2019d be cool to see him again.
