GoFundMe<\/a> campaign has been launched for longtime Rider Nation staple Wayne Kuntz, the man behind the famous Wayne\u2019s World Tailgate Party, after his home was severely damaged in an alleged arson fire on April 4.<\/p>\nThe fundraising appeal was started by his daughter, Kelly Kuntz, who shared details of the incident and the challenges her father is now facing.<\/p>\n
According to the appeal, the fire started in a shed before quickly spreading to the house, leaving the home uninhabitable.<\/p>\n
Kuntz had left for Easter dinner with only the clothes on his back and has not been able to return home since.<\/p>\n
The family said they are thankful Wayne, along with his cat Bear and dog Jersey, made it out safely.<\/p>\n
The fire comes during what has already been an incredibly difficult year for Kuntz, who was diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer and also suffered a stroke.<\/p>\n
\u201cWayne has lost almost everything,\u201d the fundraising page states.<\/p>\n
Known throughout Saskatchewan and across the CFL as one of the league\u2019s most passionate fans, Kuntz has spent more than two decades welcoming fans from both sides of the Labour Day Classic rivalry to his backyard for the annual Wayne\u2019s World Tailgate Party.<\/p>\n
What began as a spontaneous gathering in 2003 near old Mosaic Stadium has since become one of the most beloved traditions surrounding the Roughriders and Blue Bombers rivalry.<\/p>\n
Even after the Roughriders moved to new Mosaic Stadium in 2017, fans have continued making the walk to Kuntz\u2019s backyard each Labour Day weekend.<\/p>\n
The GoFundMe campaign has already received a strong response from the community. The current goal is set at $24,000, with more than $15,500 already raised.<\/p>\n
Kelly described her father as a lifelong member of Rider Nation and someone who has always been there for others.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s a familiar face to so many, and someone who has always shown up for others,\u201d the appeal reads. \u201cHe\u2019s the guy who makes space for everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n
The fundraiser is intended to help cover immediate needs, including temporary lodging, clothing, food, and support as the family works through next steps.<\/p>\n
