More overnight respite care is coming to a long-term seniors centre in Brampton thanks to more than $900,000 in annual funding from the province.<\/p>\n
Peel Region made the funding announcement on Thursday, saying the Government of Ontario is giving over $560,00 in start-up funding and more than $901,000 every year to support ongoing overnight care at the Seniors Health and Wellness Village at Peel Manor.<\/p>\n
Overnight respite provides short-term, personalized care for adults who are frail, living with dementia, or managing disabilities or chronic illness.<\/p>\n
Stays range between a week to 14 days, giving caregivers time to rest, work, travel, or attend to their own health and well-being, \u201chelping them maintain the resilience needed to continue providing safe, loving care at home,\u201d the region says.<\/p>\n
The region says respite services at the Seniors Health and Wellness Village at Peel Manor are already making a meaningful difference for local families, with a December 2025 caregiver survey finding 100 per cent of respondents were satisfied overall with the program.<\/p>\n
Some 95 per cent reported reduced strain or stress as a result of receiving overnight respite support.<\/p>\n
One in five residents in Brampton, Mississauga and Caledon are expected to be over 65 by 2041, and caregiver support \u201chas become increasingly critical,\u201d the region says.<\/p>\n
The number of working-age adults living in Peel compared to older residents is declining, down from eight-to-one in 2006 to one-in-five in 2021, and pressure on the senior\u2019s care system is only expected to \u201cintensify,\u201d the region says.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese demographic shifts heighten caregiver burden, increasing the risk of burnout, declining caregiver health, and care breakdown,\u201d the region says. \u201cWhen caregivers do not receive adequate support, the strain extends to families, hospitals, paramedic services, and long-term care homes.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Seniors Health and Wellness Village at Peel Manor is a one-of-a-kind care facility that combines a 177-bed long-term care centre with a main-floor service hub providing a broad range of services for seniors, caregivers and others living in the community.<\/p>\n
