{"id":593793,"date":"2026-04-10T02:08:17","date_gmt":"2026-04-10T02:08:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/593793\/"},"modified":"2026-04-10T02:08:17","modified_gmt":"2026-04-10T02:08:17","slug":"caufield-scores-50th-goal-of-season-for-canadiens","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/593793\/","title":{"rendered":"Caufield scores 50th goal of season for Canadiens"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Caufield, 25, is one goal behind Colorado Avalanche forward <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/nathan-mackinnon-8477492\" title=\"Nathan MacKinnon\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nathan MacKinnon<\/a>\u00a0in the race for the Maurice \u201cRocket\u201d Richard Trophy, which is awarded to League&#8217;s leader in goals.<\/p>\n<p>No Canadiens player has ever won the Maurice \u201cRocket\u201d Richard Trophy, which was unveiled on Jan. 24, 1999, as a gift to the NHL from the Canadiens. In fact, since the trophy was unveiled, Caufield is the only Canadiens player at score at least 40 goals in a season.<\/p>\n<p>After he scored two goals in a 3-2 win at the New York Rangers on April 2, Caufield was asked whether scoring his 50th goal and catching MacKinnon was on his mind. Caufield quickly said, \u201cNo,\u201d but after a pause, he gave an enthusiastic, \u201cLike yeah,\u201d drawing laughs from the media.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just say the same as our coach, we\u2019re focused on our team game and winning games, and I think individual stuff comes with that,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Obviously, it helps when you\u2019re winning games, but you\u2019d be crazy not to know what\u2019s going on around the League.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo again, still hungry.
