We\u2019re very early into the 2026 MLB season, but Bryce Harper is clearly mired in an early-season funk.<\/p>\n

The question is whether it\u2019s the beginning of a downward trend for Harper, who at age 33 is right in that spot where even the best hitters can show signs of decline. Or is it just a blip? Harper has quashed previous rumors of his decline; can he do it again?<\/p>\n

Bryce Harper 2026 Struggles<\/p>\n

At 33 years old in 2026, Bryce Harper remains the heartbeat of a veteran Phillies lineup built for October. The two-time NL MVP has hit 30 and 27 HR the last two seasons, has hit .285 or better in five of the last six seasons, and has been more durable the last two years since making the full-time move to first base.<\/p>\n

Harper showed he\u2019s still got it on April 6, when he went 3-for-4 with two doubles, three RBI and a walk in a 6-4 win over the Giants.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, through 12 games, he\u2019s had two or more hits just twice and has been hitless five times.<\/p>\n

Perhaps we should have seen it coming. Harper played for the USA in the World Baseball Classic, but in seven games, he managed one HR and batted .214 in 30 plate appearances.<\/p>\n

More Fantasy MLB:<\/p>\n

Should we be worried? The Phillies aren\u2019t, at least not outwardly. Harper remains the anchor of the order in the No. 3 hole. The entire Philly lineup is struggling, ranked in the bottom 10 in averages and runs scored.<\/p>\n

Trade For Bryce Harper?<\/p>\n

If there\u2019s ever been a buy-low option for Harper, now is it. And there is reason to believe he\u2019ll bounce back.<\/p>\n

If those batting behind Harper can pick it up, perhaps Bryce has a chance as well. Right now, Alec Bohm has been the cleanup bat, and he\u2019s batting .186 with one HR in 11 games. Bryson Stott is at .167 in the 5 spot.<\/p>\n

His 2025 line (.261, 27 HR, 75 RBI, 72 R) was down from 2024 but still well above-average. In a time in which many slugging first basemen are batting in the .230s, Harper\u2019s average offers a different dimension.<\/p>\n

Harper\u2019s contract runs through 2031. Philadelphia\u2019s front office has no plans to trading its veteran core, so Harper\u2019s role as clubhouse leader and lineup constant is secure.<\/p>\n

And this early season swoon? We\u2019ve seen it before. Last year, Harper batted .234 through April, then .308 in May. In 2024, he was .230 through April, .313 in May, .374 in June.<\/p>\n

Convince Harper\u2019s GM in your league to deal him for cheap and reap the reward soon.<\/p>\n
