{"id":593982,"date":"2026-04-10T04:07:09","date_gmt":"2026-04-10T04:07:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/593982\/"},"modified":"2026-04-10T04:07:09","modified_gmt":"2026-04-10T04:07:09","slug":"how-oilers-can-clinch-playoff-berth-thursday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/593982\/","title":{"rendered":"How Oilers can clinch playoff berth Thursday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There is a lot at stake in the 14-game slate of NHL action on Thursday. <\/p>\n<p>Despite being idle, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsnet.ca\/hockey\/nhl\/teams\/edmonton-oilers\/\" class=\"sn-team-post-link\" target=\"_self\" data-team=\"edmonton-oilers\" data-league=\"nhl\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Edmonton Oilers<\/a> can become the second Canadian team to clinch a playoff spot if they get some results to break their way. <\/p>\n<p>The Oilers will officially in the post-season if the Anaheim Ducks defeat the San Jose Sharks in any fashion and the Utah Mammoth defeat the Nashville Predators in regulation, combined\u00a0with any result in the Winnipeg-St. Louis game other than a Jets regulation win.<\/p>\n<p>Over in Utah, the Mammoth can clinch their post-season spot if they beat the Predators in regulation\u00a0and\u00a0the Ducks defeat the Sharks in any fashion. <\/p>\n<p>If the Mammoth clinch, it would mark the first playoff appearance for the team since it relocated to Utah. <\/p>\n<p>Finally, the Colorado Avalanche have three chances on Thursday to secure home-ice advantage throughout the Stanley Cup Playoffs by winning the Presidents&#8217; Trophy. <\/p>\n<p>The Avs will lock up the league&#8217;s best overall record if they defeat the Calgary Flames in any fashion. <\/p>\n<p>If they don&#8217;t secure a victory against the Flames, they can also win the Presidents&#8217; Trophy if they get one point against the Flames\u00a0and the Chicago Blackhawks defeat the Carolina Hurricanes in any fashion, or if the Blackhawks beat the Hurricanes in regulation.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsnet.ca\/hockey\/nhl\/teams\/pittsburgh-penguins\/\" class=\"sn-team-post-link\" target=\"_self\" data-team=\"pittsburgh-penguins\" data-league=\"nhl\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a> clinched a playoff berth Thursday after defeating the New Jersey Devils 5-2. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"There is a lot at stake in the 14-game slate of NHL action on Thursday.
