Hundreds of people are expected to gather on the campus of the University of Calgary Saturday to mark an important anniversary and attempt to break a Guinness World Record. <\/p>\n
The post-secondary school is celebrating 60 years with a variety of events on April 11 \u2014 the most interesting of which is the effort to break the world record for the most people dressed as dinosaurs. <\/p>\n
UCalgary\u2019s mascot has historically been a dinosaur; first \u2014 \u201cDexter\u201d and now his son, \u201cRex O\u2019Saurus.\u201d <\/p>\n
School officials say an adjudicator from the Guinness World Records group will be on site to verify the number. <\/p>\n
So far, organizers say 700 participants have registered. The current record on the books is 468. <\/p>\n
A similar attempt was made in Drumheller back in 2024. Despite over 3,000 dinosaurs showing up to take part, a technicality prevented the title from being granted to the town. Travel Drumheller said at the time another attempt at the record was in the works. <\/p>\n
UCalgary\u2019s attempt to break the record will go at 11 a.m. in the TFDL Quad on the main campus at 2500 University Drive NW. <\/p>\n
Other events taking place during the day include a keynote address by Olympic medallist Catriona Le May Doan, cupcakes, photo booths, archival exhibits, live music, campus tours, and more. <\/p>\n
