Arsenal return to Premier League action on Saturday for the first time in exactly one month when they host Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth at the Emirates Stadium.<\/p>\n

A lot has changed since the Gunners’ last top-flight fixture when they ran out 2-0 winners over Everton following dramatic late goals from Viktor Gyokeres<\/a> and Max Dowman.<\/p>\n

Mikel Arteta’s side have since lost the Carabao Cup final to title rivals Manchester City, been dumped out of the FA Cup by Southampton and crucially, secured a 1-0 Champions League<\/a> first-leg lead over Sporting CP.<\/p>\n

Most importantly, they have a nine-point cushion at the Premier League<\/a> summit and require five wins and a draw (16 points) to mathematically be crowned champions.<\/p>\n

The Gunners have already claimed 70 points from 31 matches while Pep Guardiola’s challengers have recouped 61 points from 30 games having played one match less.<\/p>\n

As it stands, Arsenal can reach a maximum points total of 91 while City can only reach 85.<\/p>\n

What’s key, however, is that the sides meet a week on Sunday (April 19) at the Etihad Stadium and the outcome of that match will shape the picture for the remainder of the season.<\/p>\n

If Arsenal win in Manchester, they could wrap up the title as early as May 9 when they head across London to face West Ham.<\/p>\n

They would also still have two matches left to spare – Burnley (H) and Crystal Palace (A) – to fall back on. But on the flip side, if City were to beat Arsenal, they could take the title race to the final day of the season, providing they kept winning.<\/p>\n

There are other factors involved too, such as this weekend’s results when Arsenal host Bournemouth and City travel to Chelsea.<\/p>\n

As it stands Arsenal have a better goal difference (39) than Man City’s (32) which is worth an extra point, in theory.<\/p>\n

City do still have a game in hand at home to Crystal Palace that will be rearranged for later in the season.<\/p>\n

Arsenal could actually be crowned champions in April if they keep chalking off wins and City lose two matches, one to the Gunners and one to either Chelsea (A) or Burnley (A).<\/p>\n
