The No. 3 team of senior Zoe Adkins and sophomore Natálie Cinková clinched the point with a 6-0 set, their best result as a doubles team, after senior Marley Lambert and freshman Yunfei Cai grabbed a 6-1 win to start play. DU’s No. 1 duo broke at love to begin the match and would ultimately break twice more in the match.

The No. 2 doubles match was the only one not to reach a conclusion in the dual with DU seniors Claudia Martinez de Velasco and Louise Wikander sitting on serve at 3-4 after trading breaks in the first half of the match.

Singles:
Denver rested two of its usual singles players for the day and still came away with the sweep, starting with a 6-2 6-0 win from Wikander on the top court – her fourth dual singles victory with three or fewer games lost this year and becoming her tenth dual win overall. She finished the match with a nine-game win streak, beginning with a hold for 4-2 in the first set.

Fellow senior Lambert won her fourth straight-sets singles match in as many completed matches, posting two 6-2 sets from the No. 2 spot. ORU’s Cecilia Franzin held in the match’s first game before the two players exchanged breaks in the next two. Lambert took her first break lead at 3-2 before winning five consecutive games to finish the first set and begin the second. She again traded breaks early in the set but pulled away at 3-1 and then 5-2 before serving it out at love.

Freshman Ruby Hansen played her first collegiate dual match after sliding into the lineup at No. 6 singles and came away with a straight-sets win to clinch the dual for Denver. She conceded her first service game but immediately got back on serve, winning six games in a row to finish the first set, 6-2. The second set started similarly with ORU’s Abby Wise breaking Hansen’s first service game, but the DU freshman rallied and got back to even terms at 4-4 with her second of four game in a row won to finish off the match at 6-4.

Cinková won the day’s only match to go beyond two sets, doing so in a match tiebreak performance. She started the No. 3 match strong, winning the first set at 6-2 by claiming six straight games to finish it off. The second set was more contentious with multiple groups of traded breaks that ended with a break for ORU’s Cassie Cervantes for 6-4, sending things to the 10-point tiebreak, in which Cinkova won the first nine points before finishing it off at 10-1. With the result, the Denver sophomore became the first Pioneer to achieve 25 wins on the academic year.

Cai added another win to her strong freshman campaign, moving up to the No. 4 spot for the first time and stretching her unbeaten singles streak to nine matches. She claimed a 3-0 lead to open play and got to 5-2 before ORU’s Annelise Deer got one break back, though Cai settled back in to serve it out for 6-4. After breaking again to begin the second set, Cai went on to win four in a row to finish the match with a 6-1 result.

Martinez de Velasco returned to the singles lineup for the first time in a month and got the win on Court 5. She fought back from two different break deficits to level the scoreboard at 5-5, the second of four consecutive games won to finish the set with a 7-5 win. A three-game win streak early in the second set gave her control that she held on to, sealing it with a 6-3 win.

Up Next:
The No. 63-ranked University of Denver women’s tennis team holds its home finale and celebrates its five seniors for Senior Day on Sunday, April 11, at 11 a.m. MT against North Dakota.

[442
49,48,82,593
post-595892","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-tennis","tag-ca","tag-canada","tag-sports","tag-tennis
["GET
