Brad Collinson has resigned from his position as head coach of the Concordia University football team after eight seasons, the school announced on Friday.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a difficult decision, but the right decision for me and my family,\u201d Collinson said in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis year alone, we graduated 20 players, which is a record in my time here. The team is on the up and up, and I\u2019m excited to follow them this season and for years to come.\u201d<\/p>\n

Collinson took over as the Stingers\u2019 head coach in 2018, posting a 20-36 regular-season record. The team missed the playoffs in the first year of his tenure, but has qualified in seven consecutive seasons since, losing in the first round each time.<\/p>\n

The native of St. Bruno, Que. played for Concordia from 2000 until 2002 as a centre and long snapper. After playing one season in the CFL with the Montreal Alouettes in 2003, where he made 11 special teams tackles in 18 games, Collinson returned to his alma mater as a part-time assistant and climbed the ladder to become assistant offensive co-ordinator and recruiting co-ordinator.<\/p>\n

Collinson left in 2011 and spent seven seasons as the running backs coach and the recruiting coordinator for the Laval Rouge et Or, winning four Vanier Cups. He has previously served two years as head coach of Football Canada\u2019s U18 team and won two International Bowl titles, while also winning four gold medals at the Canada Cup as the head coach of Team Quebec.<\/p>\n

Concordia has not named an interim head coach, with the three remaining full-time assistants \u2014 defensive coordinator Paul-Eddy Saint-Vilien, offensive coordinator Justin Chapdelaine, and special teams coordinator Guillaume Bourassa \u2014 expected to run the team in the transitional period. Next steps in the coaching search will be determined when the school\u2019s new athletic director, Claude Morin, assumes office on May 1.<\/p>\n

The Stingers went 3-5 last season, losing to the eventual Vanier Cup champion Montreal Carabins in the RSEQ semifinals by a 51-2 margin. The program has not won a playoff game since 2008, and last won a conference title in 1998.<\/p>\n
