{"id":596528,"date":"2026-04-11T07:17:12","date_gmt":"2026-04-11T07:17:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/596528\/"},"modified":"2026-04-11T07:17:12","modified_gmt":"2026-04-11T07:17:12","slug":"artemis-ii-splashes-down-near-san-diego","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/596528\/","title":{"rendered":"Artemis II Splashes Down Near San Diego"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/artemis-ii.jpg\" class=\"header-image\" alt=\"Artemis II Splashes Down Near San Diego\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Artemis II after splashdown, April 10, 2026 (NASA)<\/p>\n<p>The historic ten day journey of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Artemis II <\/a>has ended successfully as the capsule splashed down in the Pacific Ocean off San Diego Friday evening.<\/p>\n<p>The capsule hurdled through the Earth\u2019s atmosphere at speeds in excess of 24,000 miles an hour before deploying a series of parachutes that slowed it down for a picture perfect landing on the surface of the ocean.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/1775833511_artemis-2-mission-nasa-crew-space-moon-landing.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-206467\" class=\"size-full wp-image-206467\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/1775833511_artemis-2-mission-nasa-crew-space-moon-landing.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"400\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-206467\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">(Artemis II crew. Photo via NASA.)<\/p>\n<p>The crew, including Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen, journeyed farther from Earth than any other human, after navigating around the far \u2013 or dark \u2013 side of the moon.<\/p>\n<p>A recovery team was on site to retrieve the crew members \u2013 Christina Koch, Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover and Hansen from the capsule.
