An Edmonton high school student is in hospital with injuries after an incident at Jasper Place High School on Friday, according to police.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Police arrived at the school, located in the city’s west end, at around noon. The school was put on lockdown at around 12:15 p.m. <\/p>\n
Police said neighbouring schools were also put on lockdown as a precaution. <\/p>\n

Sixteen-year-old Akaash Dhaliwal is a student at the school. He said the school is typically safe, and the lockdown came as a shock.<\/p>\n
“They just said we had to go into a classroom for a lockdown and I think we were all confused why,” Dhaliwal said. “We didn’t really know why. … At first some people were thinking it was a drill.”<\/p>\n
Omar Addali said he is the parent of a student at the school. He said he received a text from the school about a lockdown, and rushed over to make sure his child was safe.<\/p>\n
“You’re expecting when you drop your kid off at school [that they’ll] be safe,” Addali said.<\/p>\n
“Hopefully it won’t happen again.”<\/p>\n
Currently, there are over 3,000 students enrolled at the school.<\/p>\n
In a statement to CBC News, a spokesperson for the Edmonton Public School Board said students were dismissed early as a result of the undisclosed incident.<\/p>\n
“The division takes incidents like this very seriously and the safety of students and staff is our top priority,” the spokesperson said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
