In an effort to save room in area landfills, the Municipality of Chatham-Kent (CK) is encouraging residents to take care of organic waste at home.<\/p>\n
CK is launching the Backyard Composter Program, which marks the first phase of the municipality’s Organic Waste Diversion Program.<\/p>\n
Backyard composters are available for CK residents to manage food scraps and yard waste at home. They can be purchased, for $20 each, at the following municipal service centres:<\/p>\n
\u2022 Chatham Civic Centre<\/p>\n
\u2022 Blenheim Municipal Office<\/p>\n
\u2022 Dresden Municipal Office<\/p>\n
\u2022 Ridgetown Municipal Office<\/p>\n
\u2022 Tilbury Municipal Office<\/p>\n
\u2022 Wallaceburg Municipal Office<\/p>\n
The bins can be purchased in-person or over the phone for a later pickup.<\/p>\n
According to the municipality, there is a limited supply at each location.<\/p>\n
The second phase of the Organic Waste Diversion Program will include a standardized curbside leaf and yard waste collection program in 2027.
