Atkins added cedar to “purify” the space for those viewing her art.

Metro Vancouver boasts of planting twice as many trees as were removed for construction of the reservoir, with added benches and more 2,000 shrubs, grasses and groundcover plants.

The new green area aims to provide year-round habitat for birds and butterflies. Interpretive signage tells park users about the artist and artwork, as well as the drinking water system and conservation. The City of Surrey will also design and install a new playground.

VIDEO: Exterior and interior views of Surrey’s new Fleetwood Reservoir, built by @MetroVancouver at park near 152 St./Fraser Hwy.

The facility can hold 13.6 million litres of drinking water and features colourful glass art

STORY: https://t.co/jA6Hjj3JLF via @SurreyNowLeader pic.twitter.com/uVBrU9nafR

— Tom Zillich (@TomZillich) April 10, 2026

Fleetwood Reservoir is connected to a new Metro Vancouver valve chamber and water main, as well as the City of Surrey’s Fleetwood Pump Station, to send water through the municipal system to people’s taps. The project was built for $60 million, approximately $1 million under the approved budget, according to Metro Vancouver.

The reservoir is “a great example of how careful planning and thoughtful design — along with collaboration with our member municipalities, community partners, and local First Nations — can deliver necessary infrastructure on time and under budget,” said Mike Hurley, chair of Metro Vancouver’s boards of directors.

“The incredible mural by Elinor Atkins and the improved park space have made this reservoir both functional and beautiful.”

Metro Vancouver collects and stores rainfall and snowmelt in three reservoirs located in the Capilano, Seymour and Coquitlam water supply areas. The water goes through two treatment plants, then travels to these in-system reservoirs via a network of water mains.

PHOTOS: New Fleetwood Reservoir features colourful glass mural at Surrey park Published 12:45 pm Friday, April 10, 2026…

[194299
49,48,87674
post-596994","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-surrey","tag-ca","tag-canada","tag-surrey
["GET
